  2. Add in Cano for Joseph and a RH bat, either Diaz or Melky for Slade and this may be our Opening Day lineup against Lester. Pretty scary.

  3. Ben Francisco got cut today, I'm sure he'll be linked to the yankees. I hope they pass.....give the young OFs a chance unless someone who is clearly better comes along. 37-yr old Derek Lee at 1B might be worth looking if Mustelier can't handle 3B. I'd really like to see a healthy David Adams at 3B but I haven't heard an update on him in a while.

  4. Looks like Kuroda had his stuff going nicely today. 4 innings of work. 3 hits and 6K's. Youk also had a homerun.

  6. There's more to it Matt. The Yankees officially signed Francisco to a minor league deal. He'll be in camp tomorrow to compete for the right-handed OF spot.

  7. Friggin Cashman. No need for that signing. what a waste.

  8. What's everyone's thoughts on the Ben Francisco signing?

  9. What a waste of time, Musty at 3rd or, as fishjam said, Adams (if healthy). And put our best right hander in the out field, whom ever it may be! Musty should get a chance to show he belongs, he is 28(?) and time is getting short for him. He has shown he can hit, now show he can play 3rd and corner OF if and when needed.

  10. He is still nursing that back injury Fish. He has already been optioned to AAA.

  11. Yeah and he was optioned to AAA camp. Kid missed a GOLDEN opportunity. He just can't stay healthy.

Sherman says Carlos Lee's agent reached out to the Yanks. that would be a move that makes some sense. He can play 1B and LF and can still hit LHP. Yanks tried to trade for him last yr but he invoked his no-trade. A guy like him makes sense because he's better than the options we have now. A guy like Francisco is no better than what we have and just blocks the young players who still have upside. If it's just a depth move then that's OK but given Girardi and Cashman's proclivity towards veterans over young players, I doubt it.

  12. I agree, Musty should make the team. he can hit and he has versatility in the field. From what i've seen he's perfectly adequate in the OF and although he hasn't been tested much at 3B. He played 24 games at 3B in the minors last yr and made 3 errors in 51 chances.....not much of a sample to tell you much. I'd run him out there everyday this ST and by Opening Day you should know if he can play the position.

  13. fishjam, Musty could be in trouble if the Yanks sign Lee, Rivera is hitting pretty well right now and he is a veteran.

  14. Yeah, I'm not a big Rivera fan but since he is a veteran and plays both 1B and LF, and he's hit a bit in ST, he'll likely make it. A Derek or Carlos Lee signing would mean Musty is likely screwed. The other guy who i believe has to make the team is Zoilo. With Tex and Granderson out, this team needs lefty power and the versatility of a switch-hitter. Zoilo provides both.

  15. fishjam, good point, it may come down to him or Melky Mesa.
