  3. Mesa hit another HR today. That's 2 HR's, 4 RBI's in 2 days. To be honest, I'd be more comfortable with him getting the CF role to begin the season than the other reserves the Yankees have in mind.

  4. Good to see Ronnie and Melky performing. Juan Rivera also looking good so the guys are stepping up. Joba wasn't very good today but interesting his velocity was 94 or 95 today and it usually takes him awhile in the spring to get up there.

  5. So far watching the spring training games I'm really impressed with the outfield prospects the Yanks have. Mesa, Mustelier, Almonte, and Heathcott all look like they could play in the majors right now. Cashman intimated yesterday that one of them could make the team if they show well in spring training.

  6. I have to think Joba's comments the other day distracted him today. Rivera looks like he is going to make the team at this point, not only does he have experience but he is hitting. He could be the right handed DH until A-Rod returns.

  7. I think their will be a good competition for the starting outfielder job with the first loser as the back-up. Rivera, Mesa, and Almonte all have looked good. I know Cashman is high right now on Heathcott, yesterday he said he had the skills to be another Grady Sizemore type player and that his skills were better than Melky Cabrerrs. He also said some scouts said he was the best player in the Arizona Fall League.

  8. doug...how did you like the 25 cent word I used, I have one question for you please....tell me what the heck I said?
Heathcott, Brett and Itchy are going to be a pitchers...morning after! Be nice to see that combination in the out-field and on the basepaths. I think with those guys out there and if we can get a few HRs from the big guns we will surprise some teams. I never liked to have the Yankees win with HRs and get dependent on the HR...which has been the problem with the Yankees over the years. It is much easier for good pitchers to shut down power hitters than it is to shut down Itchy, Brett and Heathcott(?)!
Yes it would be nice to have a few guys that can hit WRISP, it is simple to understand!
    Have a good one! :)

  9. old yankee, I'm not sure if it's better to have all three in the outfield at the same time. Where the Yanks missed the boat was on a player like Beltran, if they could have got him any one of the last three times he was available it would have been the Yanks and not the Giants or Cards winning the series. Beltran hits for average, power, plays a good outfield, and hit in the playoffs, that's the kind of guy you are looking for in the long run. I actually like Heathcott better than Gardner and Ichiro in the long run. He has more upside, but he might not be ready until next year. The Yanks have some good young outfielders in Austin, Heathcott, and Williams, add to that Almonte, Mesa, and Flores and you have some depth going forward. It will be interesting to see which one of these prospects step up and have the make up to make the majors. Sometimes the difference between a major league player and minor league player is mental.
