Yankees Close To Trading For Vernon Wells

4:37 pm The Yankees and Angels are "crossing the T's and dotting the I's" and this deal will  get done as early as today. Vernon Wells has already expressed a willingness to waive his full no trade clause to go to New York. The Yankees will have to give up a "low low low level prospect" in the deal. The only hang up now is just how much the Yankees will have to pay for Vernon Wells services in 2013 and 2014.

I am seeing a bunch of tweets about the Yankees being close to a trade that would bring Vernon Wells from the Angels to the Yankees.... Stay tuned.

Wells is signed for the 2013 and 2014 season and is owed $42 million over those two years. One would think that the Angels would have to eat almost all of it to make this happen. I think Brain Cashman is really confused because this is the wrong Angels right handed right fielder that wants to be on the Yankees for the next two seasons he was supposed to sign Torri Hunter, not Vernon Wells.

It is worth mentioning that Vernon Wells has not has a terrible spring. In 41 plate appearances Vernon has put up a triple slash of .361/.390/.722 with an OPS of 1.112. Vernon Wells has also hit four home runs this spring and 11 RBI's with two stolen bases in three chances. I know that this is Spring Training but those numbers are still quite impressive nonetheless. Maybe we have another Ichiro resurgence?

  2. Oy vey! His batting average the last 2 seasons was .218 and .230, to go with an OPS of .660 and .682. I'm with dm on this one... the Angels better pay us to take him off their hands.
