I'm desperate for a Yankees win here. Come on. If we can take at least this game, I'd be satisfied. Here's the lineup.

Brett Gardner CF
Robinson Cano 2B
Vernon Wells LF
Travis Hafner DH
Lyle Overbay 1B
Brennan Boesch RF
David Adams 3B
Reid Brignac SS
Austin Romine C

LHP Vidal Nuno

  1. Wow, that was a bad 4-game sweep. It reminded me of the playoffs last yr when Detroit swept the Yanks and no one could hit. 7 runs in 4 games against the Mets pitching staff? Outside of Harvey, they should have crushed the other 3 starters. The Yankees early season success in 1 & 2-run games is what got them into 1st place but things are starting to even out. They've now lost 5 of their last 6 games decided by 1-run.

  2. fishjam, that's baseball, always a lot of parity. Even the best teams only have a .600 percentage normally, while the worst teams usually win 6 and lose 10. The season is a marathon, these players have done a creditable job to this point.

  3. Thanks Doug.....I tend to be pessimistic at times but can always count on you for optimism. At the beginning of the season, if we were told that with all of the injuries this team would have that they would be in 2nd place, 2 games back 33% into the season, we would probably be happy. But since the team was playing well and winning it raised expectations and their problems are starting to catch up to them.

The pitching has continued to be excellent but this team HAS to start scoring more runs to make the playoffs. They are 11th in the American league in Runs Scored and that will not get them to the playoffs....hopefully Tex avoids his typical slow start and the team gets a boost from Youk & Tex in the lineup. Wells has to start hitting again and they need to try Boesch or others in RF because Ichiro is anemic.

  4. fishjam, I'm afraid that adding Youk and Tex might not help the team in scoring runs right now. Tex is like he is in spring training and Youk might be in the same boat. A couple of minor league starts hardly gets them ready to face Lester and Buckholz. Sorry for my pessimisism, hopefully Wells and Hafner can carry them until they find their stroke, Robby is a given.

  5. I agree.....Tex is usually horrible for at least a month. But getting the 2 RH bats should help some as it looks like Boston may throw 3 LH starters at us this weekend. THANKFULLY, Buchholz was scratched tomorrow but it now looks like Lester, Doubront and Franklin Morales. Boston held Lester back an extra day to face us and it's no coincidence they have 3 LHPs scheduled against us. They read the stats like everyone else and see that the yanks are 14th out of 15 A.L teams in BA (.235) & OPS (.666) vs LHP.

  6. John Farrell knows what he's doing, I remember when he pitched for Shore Regional down the shore back in the 70's. He's a NJ boy from Monmouth Beach. He is the big reason the Sox are back on track.
