Dariel Alvarez Comes Off The Board, Sign With Orioles

The Yankees were recently linked with 24 year old Cuban defecting outfielder Dariel Alvarez but he came off the board today when the Baltimore Orioles signed him for $800,000. Since Dariel is older than 23 years old and has at least three seasons of professional baseball in Cuba he will not affect the Orioles international spending cap. It's a shame the Yankees did not kick the tires on this guy because by the time he would be ready to contribute every day we would be without the likes of Ichiro Suzuki, Vernon Wells, Curtis Granderson, and maybe even Brett Gardner. Oh well I just hope this isn't the next Yoenis Cespedes or Yu Darvish type that we missed the boat on again.
