Romine Clears Waivers, Outrighted to Triple-A

The New York Yankees may be smarter, or luckier, than we may have originally thought. The Yankees chose John Ryan Murphy as their backup catcher for the 2015 season and ultimately designated Austin Romine, who is out of options, for assignment at the end of spring training. Many thought that Romine would at minimum be claimed by a team and hidden on the 25 man roster all season while many thought he would be traded to the San Diego Padres, the Philadelphia Phillies or another mystery team. Well if you had none of the above when you made your prediction you would be correct as Romine cleared waivers today and was outrighted to Triple-A Scranton with the RailRiders. Romine could not refuse his assignment and elect free agency so it looks like the 26 year old will be a Yankees player at least one more season. Romine is likely to be the every day guy in Scranton with Eddy Rodriguez backing him up while standing at the top of the totem pole if something were to happen to Brian McCann or Murphy.

  1. It's really surprising that Romine wasn't claimed. He's nothing special, but I'd think he would be a good backup catcher for somebody.

    1. I was equally as surprised as you Bryan. I figured SOMEONE would take a shot on him. Oh well, our gain.

    2. Being rejected as he has been, may be the best thing to ever happen to him. It is a kick in the ass to get your shit together or the next stop is the unemployment line.
It has worked for others, he has the talent to be better than what he has projected on the field. Now it has become the "Show us time"!

      I too am surprised!

    3. Problem is he won't get the chance to show how well it's working in the show. He's destined for AAA unless someone gets hurt

  2. Murphy isn't exactly tearing it up yet and after that last at bat it might be sooner rather than later

    1. Not yet, no, but he did have a pair of doubles last night. I don't think I've seen Romine hit two doubles in his MLB career. Let alone in one game.

  3. NATHAN EOVALDI....Time to rock.
FLASH !!...Yankees to unleash their prized weapon on Boston this Friday...Nathan Eovaldi.
Hans-el...use those Boston tickets, and enjoy life.
As Nat Eovaldi, will go through the Boston line-up, like a lawn thatcher.

  4. SECRET WEAPON...Yes, and it is in the Yankee arsenal !
    The player...N. Eovaldi, Pitcher.
My brothers, check this out :

" In Eovaldi, the Yankees also acquired the best right-handed pitcher in baseball at shutting down the running game. Eovaldi has allowed only two stolen bases and six stolen base attempts over the last two seasons, which is roughly one steal attempt every 51 innings." River Ave Blues.
    Not too shabby ?

" Better Days "....Bruce Springsteen...Great player intro music for this secret weapon ?

    1. The first time Eovaldi gives up a hit or a walk you know Hans is going to roast you, right? But seriously, he will.

  5. I am using the tickets and of all the guys I have to see in my first game of the year is Eovaldi. Bottom line is this Defense is terrible. Didi has the IQ of a Nat. This team just isn't that good. Yes its earlier but like Yogi said its getting late early. It's so hard to watch this group throw the ball around.

    1. Didi is trying to do too much, I don't think it's an intelligence thing. He is putting too much pressure on himself. Rushing throws, trying to do too much on the bases. He's one of the one's I worry about the least.

    2. I worry a great deal about him and base running is instinctive along with baseball smarts. He has shown to me he has neither. Kids playing little league no you don't make the first or third out at third base and what is worse yet is we were down be numerous runs. You have no reason to go to third unless its a pass ball. Base hit scores you anyway. That my friend is baseball IQ and not trying to hard

    3. Well here I go agreeing with Ken again! Didi has already had 2 baserunning blunders in 3 games. Trying to steal third, and taking to big of a turn around first on a ball already in the infield. I don't know if it's trying too hard or low baseball iq. Time will tell I guess. The only defense I can offer him is so far it doesn't matter. Yankee offense is still nonexistent. Runners on second and third with nobody out and they can't even get a run in with the heart of the order up. Pretty hard to watch that.

    4. It's ok Jeff to come over to the dark side. Its peaceful here and not being the egomanic that Arod is, but I'll be right more times than wrong.

  6. HANS-EL....Enjoy the game. Sitting in your row would have been fun. I know that.

As for the team as presented ? Let them go south quickly, and the fans will follow.
Management will be forced to correct this. I believe this.
This is not the Mets. If they treat this team as the Mets...I'll have other things to do.

It is a team, destined for change, that will have a new look by July 1, or seasons end.
How would a Cuban look now ?

    Enjoy those $10.00 beers.

    1. That's a good point patrick. The Mets will watch attendance plummet along with profits and ride it out, I don't think Hal will. He proved that before the 2014 season. If the team sucks and the fans don't come out then July 31st could be fun for the first time in a long time in the Bronx.

    2. I'm just not sure Hal has a clue. He truly scares me as our owner. He doesn't understand the dynamics of winning, he thinks he understands the finances of winning and they don't always go hand and hand. I still want an owner like Cuban who wants to win. Hal isn't the guy and by the way how is Didi's baseball intelligence so far????

      Delete
    3. I don't think Hal cares about winning. Yes the two go hand in hand in the Bronx but he made over $500 million last year with a $200 million payroll and a pretty terrible team. He cares about being mediocre enough to make the money, and he's succeeding.

Like I said, Didi looks more like he is trying to do too much and less like an idiot. He wants to make every play that is hit to him and throws and rushes throws when he should pocket the ball. He wants to take the extra base or steal the big base late in the game. The plays were dumb but I don't think he's dumb personally. Just what my eyes tell me, they can deceive.

    4. I agree with you on Hal, not on Didi. This crap is etched into your brain as a kid playing the game. He doesn't have the baseball acumen we are accustomed to.

    5. I will not pass judgement on Didi until Joe G has a long talk with him and tries to settle him down. Give the guy a break for a few weeks, trying too hard is always a disaster, one which can be corrected with help from the guys around him and the Manager.

Slow down Didi, not every ball hit to you can be turned into an out for the opposition!

  7. I think I saw the same thing written about Brett!
