Game Preview: New York Yankees @ Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 7/1

The New York Yankees and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim face off tonight in the finale of their three game set in Angels Stadium. The Yankees will send Nathan Eovaldi to the mound tonight to face off against Matt Shoemaker for the Angels. It’s probably not a coincidence that Adam Warren was supposed to start in this game and won’t, I doubt the Yankees wanted Eovaldi to face off against the Tampa Bay Rays this weekend. Anyway the game will be played at 7:05 pm ET and can be seen on the YES Network and MLB TV.

  • Eovaldi is looking for his third straight strong start this season after looking impressive against the Houston Astros in his last start. In front of Nolan Ryan the fellow Texan allowed just two runs on five hits in six innings against the Astros in a victory for the Yankees leaving many ton wonder if Eovaldi finally has it figured out this season.

  • Shoemaker is fresh off a strong start against the Seattle Mariners last time out where he allowed just two runs in six innings of work for the Angels. Shoemaker had an extra two days of rest before the start as he worked on getting his timing in sync and will not have that luxury this time out for Anaheim. With that said maybe the Yankees can take advantage of that and clobber the cobbler.

The Yankees have one more game tonight in California before getting a much needed off day tomorrow. The Yankees will use the off day to travel and prepare for a big three game weekend series with the Tampa Bay Rays, the team that currently sits atop the American League East Division and one of the teams the Yankees are chasing in the playoff race. This has all the makings of your typical trap game for New York so hopefully Girardi has his troops ready for battle tonight in Anaheim.

  1. The bleeding stops tonight !!.....Spin the chamber on that sidearm.
Next up....'The Revolver' Nathan Eovaldi. Losing streak stopper.

How good would this be ?...a three player influx of youth ? Starting with Severino.
Out goes Sabathia, Drew, and Jones. You choose the other two.
Its a wash. By releasing Sabathia, you bring in Severino....who earns nothing.
    In my dreams.

    1. That would be three straight games where he started well, I think they call that a trend. or a streak.

  2. I hope you fire up your computer tomorrow and read a post from me apologizing for being wrong, but Mr. Inconsistency is about due to get lit up like a pinball machine. There's a reason he ranks among the league worst in hits. Although I'll give you this, he's not the worst starter the Yankees have in their rotation.

    1. He also does well against the better teams, he's schizto just like the rest of the team. I hope to see your apology in the AM as well.

  3. Well here it is little p. I apologize to both you and "The Revolver". On my way home from work today, I will buy some Coors Light and make a toast to the both of you.

    1. The Revolver nickname sticks until he lays another egg.... may be on to something here... but I'm a bit superstitious.

    2. DANIEL...save the eggs for the big hen.....Chasten Charles.
He remains the cancer to this season, and must be cut away.
The Yankees should be sitting well up there in first place.

  4. 99.9% of the time I don't agree with Levin and the .1% I am going to agree with him is that the Straight water pistol isn't the worst starter we have, however he is the worst in the league once again for giving up the most hits.

  5. Actually Hans he isn't anymore (and I have a post about this for tomorrow scheduled) Jeff Samardzija is now leading the league in hits allowed

    1. Well that sucks lol. My apologies to Mulch head on that comment. I'm still not sold on a starter that throws straight and usually gets high run support for his wins

  6. JEFF ' Budweiser ' LEVIN....No apologies necessary.
All I was trying to point out, was that Eovaldi has an abundance of potential, and that Rothschild
was working with him. As evident in this short positive run.

I have a stash of Coors Light, and I made a toast to you....about an hour ago.
You're a man of your word....I knew that.

    1. Damn you patrick, you had me going on this one until I clicked the comment. Can you say disappointment?

  8. HANS-L...looking for your insight. You tend not to share.
You hammer away at others for their thoughts / ideas....rather enjoyable actually.

You are now the GM for the moment...Your thoughts on adding youth ? Re-setting this 25 man roster ?
    The rotation ? A trade ?
You never go near these areas. Most of us do. So, where do you stand ?

  9. Here is where I stand St. Mulch. I would've had the balls to put CC in the pen or at least your guy the water pistol. I'm not sending my most consistent pitcher to the pen because he's been there before. I would've already cut ties with Drew, had Refsnyder up here and let him learn on the fly, brought Judge up as well and platoon him with Betran and I would make a trade for another arm that is a number one arm like JC of the Reds or Hammels IF and a big IF I can absorb money and not have to give all my prospects. This pitching staff is inconsistent and needs a stud to anchor which we apparently don't have. Oh wait I hear rumbling in the crowd that Tanaka is an ace as is Pineda. Well they sure aren't pitching like an ace consistently.

Your brother Hal however won't take on salary and in my opinion I don't think the Elf has the ability to pull off any trade that is huge other than a dumpster dive move he has become known for. Lastly I would let Arod play more third as Headly is an error waiting to happen so how much worse could Arod be? I'm saying let him play two games a week at third.

    1. Mr. Hans,

      CC to the pen, agree.

Refsnyder to 2B, agree, but I'd keep Drew for the bench. Backup SS, 2B, and a possibly home run off the bench.

Judge up, agree, and platoon, agree, because Yankees can't / won't move that contract.

I'm not entirely sold the Yankees need a number one, especially Cueto. Cueto is gone in two months, at least Hamels would be around for a few seasons. Like you say though if it's more of a salary dump then a contender buying from a pretender than I agree. No Top 5 Prospects and only one Top 10.

    2. H-PRETZEL....thanks for responding. You covered all the questions asked.
I really mean that. But because of my lack of posting time...I must pass on your
      comments.
Only for the time being. You sort of have a grace period.
Will be back at you. Take care.

    3. Patty Boy!!! Anytime you don't agree with me which is 99.9% of the time I'm sure you will let me know. Right now there is a better chance in hades that I will ever agree with you on the water pistol as a solid arm. I enjoy the back and forth with you. Enjoy the 4th and stay safe.

    4. HAN-DBAG......You don't have to agree with me. That's not my goal.
But, there is the chance you may soften up a bit....like a Carvel cone.
You enjoy the forth also. Hope you, and Levin, can stay out of jail.

  10. A-Rod at 3rd isn't a bad idea but only once a week and maybe 1st once in a while. He isn't going to cover the ground of Headly but what he gets to he will finish the play.
That would mean A-Rod would be out of the line-up at least one game a week for rest, being his age of 39+++!
    Good thinking Ken H!

    1. Once a week, tops. I think the only reason he is so good with the bat is because of the rest and "half days off" he gets by DH'ing. You can tell in the last week he is hitting below .200 and it's probably not a coincidence that the Yankees have been playing every single day for almost three weeks now. He's exhausted.

      Delete
    2. I would agree with that Burch once a week at 3rd with an ocassional 2nd day a week when needed.

      Delete
    3. No doubt about him being exhausted, his legs are gone. Today he hit one out, but he was guessing and was on a pitch that wasn't all that good anyhow. Sitting him for Tuesday's game wouldn't be a bad idea, although some would say, "Why sit him, he just hit one out Sunday!". It would give someone else a chance to DH for a half a day off.

Another one that needs rest is Brett, and it is starting to show!

      Delete
    4. Brett cannot afford to rest until Ellsbury comes back unfortunately. You want to rest Alex but you also have to remember he's 99% not going to make the All-Star team giving him four or five days of rest... and the team needs all the wins they can get as the schedule gets soft(er) with the A's and Red Sox. This lineup is terrible when you take one of A Rod, Teixeira or McCann out.

      Delete
    5. Heck Daniel, giving him Tuesday off gives him two days in a row, we can live without him for one game, especially the way he has been hitting. Then we have a semi-rested A-Rod until after the AS break.
Just a thought of mine...being somewhat old myself, two days off is more than enough rest. I can't wait to get back to my yard work after having nothing to do for two days!

    6. He'll probably get the day game after the night game off this Wednesday anyway so I think he will be fine. This offense is just so different when one of these guys is out. It forces Girardi to bat Garrett Jones 5th.
