Yankees Lose Robert Coello To The Baltimore Orioles

The New York Yankees designated Robert Coello for assignment last week and have since lost the right handed starting pitcher to the Baltimore Orioles. The Orioles signed Coello to a minor league deal yesterday to add the 29 year old into the rotation and the fold. Coello has posted a 1.69 ERA in 32 innings for the Scranton Wilkes Barre RailRiders this season. Coello has not enjoyed the same results in the majors though and has a career 5.90 ERA in parts of three seasons in the show.

Yankees Sign Edgmer Escalona, Lose Robert Coello

The New York Yankees have signed former Baltimore Orioles pitcher Edgmer Escalona to a minor league deal today. Robert Coello opted out of his minor league deal so basically Escalona will take his roster spot for the Scranton Wilkes Barre RailRiders.

Escalona is 27 years old and rejected a minor league assignment after being designated for assignment by Baltimore a couple weeks back. Escalona was a relief pitcher until around two months ago when the Orioles moved him into the starting rotation. Escalona responded by posting a 6.10 ERA in 20.2 innings before getting the ax.

Gardner drives in two in 5-4 loss to Rays

Despite getting a clutch, two-out, two-run single from Brett Gardner, an RBI Fielder's Choice from Kelly Johnson, and a decent 2.1 innings of one-run ball from starter Adam Warren, the Yankees were beaten today by their division rivals from Tampa, 5-4. Going into this one's bottom of the fourth, the Yanks had a comfortable 4-1 lead, but then some guy named Robert Coello came in and completely ruined everything, giving up 4 runs (a three-run home run and a solo home run) while getting just one out.

So yea, the Bombers probably should've won this game, but, like with yesterday's loss, they didn't due to one bad inning. That kinda sucks, but, you know, this is just Spring Training. Wins and losses aren't the most important thing.

Yankees Sign Robert Coello To Minor League Deal

The New York Yankees have announced the signing of Robert Coello to a minor league deal according to Matt Eddy of Baseball America. Coello is a right handed reliever and will provide depth for the Yankees AAA team and possibly the big league team. Coello is 29 years old and coming off a 2013 season in which he pitched 17 innings for the Los Angeles Angels posting a 3.71 ERA with a 12.2 K/9 and 4.2 B/9 ratio. Could crack the bullpen out of Spring Training, see Shawn Kelley last season, but I doubt he is anything more than depth at this point. Either way there is no such thing as a bad minor league deal.
