Yankees Sign Edgmer Escalona, Lose Robert Coello
The New York Yankees have signed former Baltimore Orioles pitcher Edgmer Escalona to a minor league deal today. Robert Coello opted out of his minor league deal so basically Escalona will take his roster spot for the Scranton Wilkes Barre RailRiders.
Escalona is 27 years old and rejected a minor league assignment after being designated for assignment by Baltimore a couple weeks back. Escalona was a relief pitcher until around two months ago when the Orioles moved him into the starting rotation. Escalona responded by posting a 6.10 ERA in 20.2 innings before getting the ax.
