Ivan Nova Officially Being Skipped

Although Phil Hughes is battling a stomach bug he is slated to start tonight's game, meaning the Yankees will indeed be skipping Ivan Nova's turn in the rotation.

The reason given has to do with keeping the top three starters on schedule. For example, due to there being an off day this coming Monday, if Nova wasn't skipped then Andy Pettitte would have 7 days between starts instead of the regular 5 (Andy's last start was on April 9th, and he wouldn't start again until April 16th). However a "so-so" start against the Tigers last week, in which he gave up 4 runs off of 5 hits and 2 walks in 4.2 innings, probably has quite a bit to do with the decision.

It doesn't sound as though Ivan is ready to give in yet.
“I know that CC and Company have to pitch every five days,” Nova said. “I understand that part and just got to be ready when they tell me to go out there. … I feel really good when my day to pitch is coming. All I want to do is go out there and pitch. Now I’ve got to wait five more days. It’s going to be like, for me, a month.”
