  1. We could use A-Rod and Jeter!

  2. Looks like the Yanks are going to pick up Soriano from the Cubs, they will pay most of the remaining contract. I don't have a problem with this move since he is a power right handed bat that the Yanks need. Soriano might be a good DH option.

  3. Obviously Soriano is an upgrade to the pathetic offense we have now so he def helps on the field for this season. Its far from done but I don't like some of the things I'm hearing about this deal. First off, since Chicago will pick up much of the money, Yanks will have to give up a decent young player....they say a mid-level prospect or 2...whatever, I don't like giving away young assets for another low OBP, 38 yr old player.

The other issue is they are said to be attempting to structure the deal so as to have less impact on the 2014 luxury tax. That tells me they are still sticking to the attempted $189M budget which means we are looking at another pathetic offseason.

Thirdly, this now gives us 3 old, well past their prime OFs that are signed thru next season. Ichiro, Soriano & Wells. Along with Gardner, this tells me don't expect the team to add a quality younger OF bat via FA this Winter and Zoilo won't get an opportunity.

And lastly, it means they are still attempting to contend this yr and expect more trades like this i would be going in the opposite direction by trying to acquire good, younger assets for next yr....not giving away young assets for more old players on their last legs.

  4. That's nice in theory Fish but what good, young assets under team control are on the block this deadline? I doubt many

  5. There are always young assets being traded at the deadline. The Cubs just picked up Mike Olt and 3 or 4 young players for Garza. Mets picked up Wheeler for Beltran a couple of years ago. Yanks could get a haul for Kuroda if he agreed to be traded. Perhaps by younger assets, you interpreted that as MLB players in their prime. I agree they are very difficult to acquire at the deadline. What I'm saying is the yanks should keep all of their minor lg/young MLB assets (don't trade 1 or 2 for Sori) and look to add to that by trading veterans. I don't think adding a player or 2 like Soriano will get the yankees to the World Series or even the playoffs for that matter. Let's look towards next year.

  6. fishjam, I think Kuroda has a no trade clause, I don't see him going anywhere, he is one of the few players the Yanks can get anything for. The Yanks have been trying to peddle Hughes and Joba for weeks with no takers. Soriano is an upgrade over what they have now, and the Yanks are not out of the playoff picture yet, so I only see them adding players. It is not in their DNA to sell at this point. Lastly I don't think Cashman is looking to give up much for Sori. Soriano also gives the Yanks a good right handed DH with power that they have needed all season.

  7. No doubt Soriano would help the offense now. Just don't like what it says about next year.....they would then have 4 OFs on the books for next yr already so little to no chance of adding anyone significant in the Winter, If they didn't already have Wells, I'd be happy to have Soriano for next yr. But thinking about another season with 3 old OFs isn't exciting. And like I said...the way it was reported was that they are going to pay their share of his contract this season (same as they did with Wells) which tells me they still want to get under $189M next yr......ugh!

Regarding Kuroda, yeah I believe he does have a no trade which is why i said if he agreed. I know it was reported he refused to be traded from LA but no trade clauses can be worked around....money talks. Joba is worthless....Hughes would fetch some decent prospects but they may be better keeping him for the 1st round pick they'd get for him. I'd be open to trading anyone at this time though and it's a sellers market right now with so many teams thinking they have a chance at the 2nd WildCard.

  8. Fish I would sell as well. I think they could cut Wells next year since they do not owe him much and Soriano could DH mostly if they wanted to pick up an outfielder. The prospects I heard being rumored are unlikely to be anybody they will really miss.
