Alfonso Soriano has been named the American League Player of the Week award for the week ending on Sunday August 18th. Major League Baseball made the announcement earlier today on MLB Network. Soriano went .484 with a double, five home runs, 18 RBI's, and nine runs scored over the seven Yankees games. The Yankees got right back into the playoff discussion in those seven games with the Yankees going 5-2 last week against the Detroit Tigers and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
