Nova bounces back from rough start to beat Red Sox, 3-2

Ivan Nova gave up just 2 earned runs in 7.1 innings and Shawn Kelley retired all three batters he faced in the ninth tonight as the Yankees clinched this series with one more win over the Red Sox, 3-2. In this outing, Nova really never looked too bad, as he finished this one up with a nice no walk, 4 strikeout line to improve his record to 2-1.

Anyway, the Yanks offense, as you can see by that final score, didn't do a ton this evening, but in the end their third inning two-run home run from Carlos Beltran and fourth inning RBI Fielder's Choice from Francisco Cervelli proved to be enough. On that FC, Cervelli actually hurt his hamstring, with the details of the injury still yet to be known.

Besides those guys, relievers Matt Thornton and David Phelps also contributed to this W, inducing the last two outs of this game's top of the eighth. Neither one got their's easily, as Thornton's came on a leaping catch by Ichiro that robbed David Ortiz of extra bases and Phelps' came on a strikeout with the bases loaded, but still, they did get them. I guess that's good enough.
