Yankees Call Up Zelous Wheeler

Could Brian Cashman and the Yankees be back to reading The Greedy Pinstripes? The Yankees offense has struggled mightily over the last few weeks, well all season if you want to be downright honest, and may get a shot in the arm from within. The Yankees called up Zelous Wheeler and will have him in Minnesota before tonight's game. No word yet on the corresponding roster move but a 40 man and 25 man roster spot must be cleared to accommodate Wheeler. Kelly Johnson DFA?

Wheeler is 27 years old and has put up a triple slash of .300/.368/.469 this season. Wheeler has played left field, right field, shortstop, and third base this season giving the Yankees added flexibility while clubbing nine home runs.

Should have been Jose Pirela, and a Wheeler isn't the kind of guy to save us all, but it's going to be an upgrade and that works for me.

  1. I hope the roster move is a Johnson dfa, but going on the track record of Cashman it's probably a trip to aaa for Solarte.

  2. I heard Solarte posted on his instagram account it was him going down but later removed it. You know how rumors are though. Which creates the need for another roster move for the 40 man.

  3. Maybe there's a trade in the works.

    1. It's like the USA winning the World Cup... you root hard for it to happen, but deep down you know that it won't.

  4. Wonder why Wheeler's call up would be announced before the trade though, you know?

  5. Dean Anna DFA'd, Solarte to AAA and up comes Mr. Wheeler. Isn't that funny?
    Don't worry, I won't say the obvious!
Will he do us any good? We will have to wait and see but, I hope he does as well as Solarte did for a month and a 1/2. He is the most mature and Big Show ready, even though I would have gone with Daniels "Pirela".
Now they have to DL or DFA someone like Soriano (DFA), Johnson (DFA), Roberts (bench), Shawn Kelley (AAA, or DFA), Beltran (DL) to give his elbow a rest.
All that enables them to bring up Refsnyder, Venditte and Pirela????

  6. Won't happen unfortunately is the past dictates the future like it tends to do

    1. True Daniel, but I wonder...
This mess was created because Hal/Randy wouldn't give the moneys necessary to bring in the better players until, IT WAS TO LATE!
Business Sence would dictate a more calculated and savvy attitude in the way they do business from here on out.
Hal is not a dummy when it comes to money. He knows sometimes one has to spend money to make money.

  7. As evident by ditching the luxury tax idea and blowing $500 million this year with mixed results

    1. I agree Daniel...
But again, he was restricted at first, and then given the money...again after the best players were already gone.
With a limited amount of money, he didn't go after the best, he went for those he thought would help the team and not cost more then he had to spend...at that time! He tried to get three or four players for the price of one of the better players.
