Yankees Outright Zoilo Almonte To Triple-A

Zoilo Almonte has cleared waivers after being designated for assignment and has been outrighted to Triple-A with the Scranton RailRiders. Correct me if I am wrong but I don't believe Zoilo can deny his assignment and cannot elect free agency so he is with the Yankees at least until the end of the season. This is better than losing the switch hitter for nothing (yes I realize and agree that Antoan Richardson is nothing).

  1. How in the world did a switch hitting outfielder with power clear waivers? That was a stroke of luck I didn't see coming. Are there really 29 stupid general managers in the game? I thought there was only 1.

  2. I think it may have a little to do with the fact that all the guys that were going to be DFA'd, transferred to the 60 day DL, etc. have already been passed through. Not much room for Zoilo besides with us.
