The New York Yankees are playing a pair of split squad games
today as a part of their Grapefruit League schedule and that first game comes
this afternoon on the road against the Philadelphia Phillies. I love split
squad games because myself as a fan gets a little bit of the best of both
worlds. I get to see a ton of prospects get at bats since the rosters are
spread thin and I also get to see a lot of regulars getting their turns and at
bats as well.
Bryan Mitchell will start the road game for the Yankees and
the game will start at approximately 1:05 pm ET. Watch out later tonight for
the Yankees second game of the day back at home at George M. Steinbrenner
Field.
I know it's early in Spring Training, but let the trash talking begin. It seems to me that the only players producing so far are the kids that are being blocked by the veterans. Do they come to camp more prepared? Are they giving more effort because they're trying to make an impression? Or are they actually just better than their veteran counterparts?
ReplyDeleteMaybe, maybe and maybe.
DeleteDo they come to camp more prepared? Yeah, probably. You don't see Mark Teixeira in the Winter Leagues and the AFL, you see Greg Bird there. Are they giving more effort? Absolutely, it's the difference between College Football (which is entertaining) and the NFL (which sucks). Are they better? Some of them are, yes. Some are not ready and some are just being dicked around.
