Spring Training News & Final Roster Decisions

The New York Yankees have basically finalized their Opening Day roster with a few announcements that came out of Tampa this afternoon.

The final two bullpen spots will go to Chris Martin and Chasen Shreve while Justin Wilson joins the pen as well.

Esmil Rogers is the long man while Chase Whitley, who possibly had the best spring of any of the Yankees pitchers, heads to Triple-A.

Joining Whitley in Scranton is Slade Heathcott. Someone who will not be in Scranton is Andrew Bailey who will start the 2015 season with the Tampa Yankees.

Robert Refsnyder and Nick Noonan have been officially sent to minor league camps.

  1. I'm not going to sit in my living room and pretend that I know more than Cashman does. I can't help but think that all of these roster decisions have been based on money and service time. That simply is not the Yankee way. We are not supposed to be burdened by the financial restrictions that other clubs are. I believe that we should take the best team we possibly can to New York. Whitley was by far the best candidate for the 5th spot. It went to Warren, who was the second best option and a very deserving player went to AAA. Ryan is starting the year on the disabled list. Instead of letting Refsnyder take the spot he flat out earned, they get a 31 year old nobody for cash considerations just to delay Refsnyder's service time. Shreve pitched pretty good, but not nearly as good as Lindgren. We're going to be forced to watch the likes of Drew, Ryan, and Petit while better players are wasting away in the minors.

  2. BRAVO !....Jeff Levin. Scary, but you and I were to take the same tacked tonight.
You saved me so much time, I think I'll reach for a cool Coors Light.
My wife, who is very smart, says only handsome men drink Coors Light. Shes right.

  3. WHERE DID THEY GO ?............
All winter long, the Alex Rodriquez bashers were orgasmic. And, mean.
He can't hit, he can't field, he will break down, he killed Jimmy Hoffa...etc.
Never saying, lets give the guy a chance to see what he will do.

Now he has shown to be a player, on this 2015 team.
    True, a small sample, but if they didn't care...why should I ?
They are better with him, than without him. That is fact.

So where did all those know it all bashers go ?
Probably joining the ranks of Obama followers, as they march off a cliff.

  4. HANS-el & Gretel.....try this one, take a deep breath....
and, when you pronounce the name Eovaldi slowly...does it sound like 'Prado, who ?'

Give it time, you'll get it.

    2. Black Mulch Head. Try this phrase on...Spring training is now over. Let's re-vist this two times this year. First at all-star break or around the 81 game mark and the second is at the end of the year. I would bet you a sixer Eovaldi will have a losing record. The back of your baseball card doesn't lie and the kid has 15 wins in three years.

I 'm not a math wiz but that's 5 wins a year in the National league facing 8 batters. Rothschild isn't the mad scientist you all make him out to be. If he could straighten anyone out I would've thought it to be CC a proven pitcher, yet after he lost his velocity Larry did nothing to change him into a pitcher. Get ready to thrown into my garden Mulch Head

    3. Back of his card also says he is 25. CC's says about 34, big difference. Especially when it comes to changing the way you do things.

Also look at guys like AJ Burnett who learned to pitch, not throw, basically in their 30's.

    4. Disagree with you. Andy re-invented himself after he lost MPG. Should be easier for a vet to make the adjustment as they have been there before.

    5. Andy did, yes. Andy also worked with CC on this before he retired and since he retired. It's tougher for some than others and apparently CC can't do it. If you watch him pitch he does great for four or five innings and then tries to sneak some balls by people because he can't put them away the way he used to and he gets hit hard. It's a mental thing for CC I think, although I could be way off base.

  5. TOMMY TWASP...awaken from your self imposed sabbatical, you've been gone long enough.
If ever it was time to let that stinger fly...it is now.
Such a great talent. To some, misunderstood.

  6. Anyone see this part of the Petit article; "Gregorio Petit a 40 man and 25 man roster spot on the team to sit on the bench and rot just in case the team needs a backup shortstop."?

Not defending Cashman at all (although I have before), just using common sense.....

1st, I believe most of us know Refy needs a few weeks more help on his defence!
Some forget Jeter and Cano were the same as Refy is now...good bat, weak glove. Jeter became a passable glove (for a while) and very good hitter, Cano became a star on both sides of the game.

2nd, With him on the 25 man, there would be controversy.
Every day, some fans would be very upset with Drew hitting .150 while they could have someone play and possibly hit near .300 or so.

Answer; get someone cheap so Refy can become a better glove playing everyday (in AAA) and play every day for many years in the Big Show. It is harder to improve one's game rotting on the bench. Remember, both Jeter and Cano came up and played.
    Common Sense to me.

    1. You have to keep in mind your quoting the guy that wants him starting and wants no part of Drew part 2.

    2. Daniel, I am with you on this...
I also want him to start but, we know if he comes up now, he will be rotting on the bench, until they finally give Drew the 8 Ball...or they may go with Ryan getting the 8 Ball.
Give him a few weeks at AAA to get his footwork down pat and his throwing under control. He has the idea he has to throw real quick, he need not do that, he has a very strong arm, much like the guy we use to have there.
With hard work, he will be back in a short few weeks!

    3. More than half of his errors this spring were on throws. That's going off my memory that let me down once.

I'm just growing impatient. If it wasn't like this all the time with prospects and veterans it would be different.

    4. You hit it Daniel, the throws have been bad, the WHY is something that can be corrected.
And yes, this is a repeat of the past except this time, I expected it and it is needed. We don't need Refy taking his problems in the field to his hitting when he can learn some things in AAA (without the pressure) that will help him, like knowing the runners and using his footwork to help with his throws....and on, and on!
