BREAKING: Yankees Get Starlin Castro from Cubs for Adam Warren and Brendan RYan

EDIT: The player to be named later is Brendan Ryan.

Adam Warren and a player to be named later are going back to Chicago in the deal. I don't like this.

    1. no money added in the deal. Yankees added $5.5 million in salary for next season.

    3. I don't like the deal but I'm not sure if that's because I like Refsnyder so much or not.

If Castro plays like Castro did in 2014 and 2012 and prior then the Yankees got a steal. Even for Warren. Especially with Brendan Ryan. If he's the 2015 or 2013 version.... meh.

    1. Not so much Patrick! We were pulling for them to let Refsy play 2nd last year!
Castro and others could make a good package (as you wrote)!

    3. This poster has written about wanting Castro if they weren't going to let Ref have the job. This poster did not want to give up Warren to do so.

From an outside perspective, a non Yankees fan and non Warren fan, would likely say this is a great deal for the Yankees.

Warren at his best is a 3 starter and at his worst a damn good reliever. For four years of team control for a young 2B that's a steal... If he produces

    1. Not everyone has to like the deal. I don't like the deal but I'm too invested in Warren and Refsnyder to trust my judgement right now.

I will say this though and I didn't know it until this morning, Castro hit extremely well after being moved to second and given everyday at bats. Hot streak or a trend that has the Yankees buying low? I don't know yet

    2. I know I know, I must seem like a crazy person, constantly going against these trades.

      However.

Yankees pitching is 4th in most homeruns given up. And for HR/9, Sabathia and Tanaka are in the top 10. only the padres have us beat there. If starting pitching can't keep the ball in the park, defensive upgrades are useless.

    3. I didn't look at the stat but I know it to be true in Tanaka's case specifically, who you mentioned, that a lot of those home runs, maybe even most of those home runs, are solo shots. You can deal with solo shots a lot better than you can three run shots. That's just an example of why, in my opinion, using one stat to judge a guy is unfair and incomplete.

  7. I'm failing to see how this is an upgrade over Refsnyder. And before anybody says anything about him being a defensive upgrade, you better go look up his stats. He was a terrible shortstop that consistently had 20+ error seasons, and had 6 errors in 29 starts at 2b last year. Offensively, who knows. But from what we saw in Refsnyder in September, I'd rather take my chances with him.

    2. I'm not seeing the significant upgrade here either Levin. Truth be told, if you look at it in the most simplistic terms, Cashman didn't do bad in the trade. Warren for Castro is worth it if the trade wasn't so damn redundant.

I think everyone knows where I stand with Ref though so I am willing to admit that this may be clouding my judgement a bit.

    1. Two different paths and not fair to compare the two. Castro made his MLB debut when he was 20, Refsnyder went to college.

Yankees prospects don't get pushed and allowed to start early. They have to be almost 30, with obvious exceptions like Severino, before they get a shot.

    1. I will not reply to you anymore after this last and only retort Ken H. You are an instigator, the remark that started this was not addressed to you in the first place. But that didn't matter to you because it gave you a chance to start the whole thing over again. I don't take sides unless I must, in this case, I only point out the obvious...you are an instigator, just like the one that was here and left!
Now you want to drag me into this, not going to work! I may mistake a name or two here and there, but ones style never changes.

  14. I for one have had it with both of you, take it somewhere else! The, "I didn't start it" sh-t is not an answer, it is disgraceful and unacceptable. Don't reply to each others comments if you don't like what is said, or how it is worded.
This is not your blog, nor is it mine, the blog is Daniels (mostly), show him some respect and the others that post their comments here. This insidious fighting has to stop NOW!
