Yankees Release 35 Year Old Brian Gordon

The New York Yankees have released journeyman and 35 year old prospect Brian Gordon from their Triple-A Scranton Railriders roster. Gordon made 13 starts this season for Scranton and had a 4.75 ERA, 5.8 K/9, and 3.2 BB/9 in 77 innings pitched this season. Gordon was obviously nothing more than an organizational guy at this point so no big loss here.

Yankees Announce 12 Cuts From Spring Camp

The New York Yankees have announced 12 cuts from spring training camp today. The cuts include outfielders Ramon Flores, Tyler Austin, and Mason Williams, catchers Peter O'Brien and Francisco Arcia, RHP's Robert Coello, Bruce Billings, Brian Gordon, Mark Montgomery, and Chase Whitley, and infielders Jose Pirela and Corban Joseph.

Flores was the only man on the 40 man roster so he was technically assigned to Scranton Wilkes Barre with the RailRiders. None of these guys except for maybe Whitley or Montgomery had a legitimate shot at making the team so these cuts should not come as a surprise.

The real cuts will start coming later this week and next week as the roster continues to shrink to 25.

Yankees Sign Brian Gordon To A Minor League Deal

The New York Yankees continue to search for depth signings and have found one with a former Yankees pitcher in Brian Gordon. Gordon was with us for about five or ten minutes back in 20011 after converting to pitching from the outfield in 2005 before heading to Korea to pitch. Gordon was with the Oakland Athletics organization and pitched quite well in AAA in 2013 and will now likely head down to Scranton to pitch for the RailRiders. No word on whether he got an invite to spring training or not but I would say it is very likely that he will get one.
