What Will It Take For Yankee Bats To Wake Up?

If only I could just hit this button and things would change.

There's a small part of me that thinks the Yankee bats will come alive tomorrow. I know they'll be facing Justin Verlander, and I know the chances of that happening are a lot closer to "none" than to "slim, but I can't think of anything else that could wake this offense up.

The leader of the team, and future Hall of Famer, Derek Jeter fought through injury after injury in order to keep playing. Seeing Derek scream after going down, I can't imagine the pain he was going through. And I broke my kneecap after falling off a ladder last summer, so I'm not exactly a stranger to pain. It's incredible that it would even take a broken ankle for the rest of the team to look at Mr. Jeter and get fired up. How could this man not inspire you every time you step onto a baseball field.

I thought that change could happen in Game 2, the game after Derek was knocked out of the rest of the postseason. But maybe a day off to stop and think will help.

I realize that I'm being even more optimistic here than I normally would. I mean, it's not like this team has only struggled with the bats for a couple of games. No... this team hasn't hit a lick outside of the 9th inning of Game 1 in the ALDS against the Orioles.

I'm probably setting myself up for a bigger disappointment than this movie was.

Then again, if I thought any more about what Verlander may do to the Yankees tomorrow night, then I may grab a pen and shove it in each eye, so I don't have to see it.

Have You Seen These Men?

The Yankees offense is greatly missing them and would appreciate any information that would lead to the return of these two men. Contact us @greedystripes on twitter. Thank you for reading!

Red Sox To Interview Yanks Bench Coach Tony Pena

The Boston Red Sox are reportedly set to meet with Yankees current bench coach Tony Pena in their search for a new manager for 2013. Tony has been with the Yankees coaching staff since 2005 as their first base coach and current bench coach. The Yankees did have to grant him permission to be interviewed for the job but it seems like he would be a strong candidate for the job.

Jeter To Have Surgery On Fractured Ankle

News came down the wire today that Yankees SS Derek Jeter will in fact require surgery on his fractured left ankle that will keep him out for the rest of the playoffs. He will see Dr. Robert Anderson in North Carolina to confirm this officially but the ligament damage shows that it will likely be necessary. The Captain has been playing with this issue, whether directly or indirectly related, for about two months now and it finally gave out. There is no timetable set yet for return if he does get the surgery but you have to think it is longer then the original three months that we were all told.

My Thoughts After ALCS Game 2

As depressed as I've been watching the Yankees try to hit, I'm sure you're not feeling a whole lot better. So I may as well keep this review short and sweet.

Hmm... I think I did this not too long ago. How sad.

Hiroki Kuroda was brilliant. In fact, through 5 innings, he hadn't allowed a man to reach base. That included a stretch of 4 straight strikeouts to Miguel Cabrera, Prince Fielder, Delmon Young, and Andy Dirks. Even after Jhonny Peralta broke up the perfect game in the 6th, Kuroda got the next 3 batters out. Unfortunately things started to fall apart in the 7th inning, but that doesn't take away from the fact that Hiroki... like every other Yankee starter this postseason... put the team in position to win the game.

Then we come to the offense... ugh. They could only muster 4 hits in this game, and Teixeira's double in the bottom of the 1st inning was the only hit that went for extra bases. Four different batters failed with RISP (Martin did twice), leading to a head-shaking 0-5 with RISP. And because you don't feel bad enough about their performance, the Yankees racked up 10 strikeouts.

Onto Detroit this series goes, meaning a travel day tomorrow, and Game 3 happening Tuesday night.

Say Goodbye To Yankees Stadium

I do not think that we will be seeing this place again this season. Only game that looks winnable right now is CC Sabathia in Game 4. This offense is dead, cold is not even a viable word to use right now. I hate to be the pessimist but I do not see us seeing another game at home this season.

ALCS Game 2 : Tigers @ Yankees

After a really tough loss last night, in which the Yankees failed to score three times after loading the bases (they had 2nd and 3rd with nobody out in one inning), they will lean on Hiroki Kuroda. Kuroda is pitching on short rest for the first time in his career. I say "lean on" because the Yankee offense has done little to nothing this postseason, outside of Raul Ibanez (aka "Superman"). Maybe having some young blood now in the lineup in the form of Jayson Nix, will wake them up. Or maybe doing it for Derek Jeter will also light a fire under their behinds.

Here is the Yankees lineup...

Ichiro Suzuki LF
Robinson Cano 2B
Mark Teixeira 1B
Raul Ibanez DH
Russell Martin C
Alex Rodriguez 3B
Curtis Granderson CF
Nick Swisher RF
Jayson Nix SS

Go Yankees!

#HIROK In A Must Win Today

I am going to keep this short and simple because the Yankees at bats are leading me by example. The Yankees absolutely MUST win tonight or they go home, although without Derek Jeter they probably are anyway. The Yankees lost Game 1 and face Justin Verlander in Game 3 at Comerica Park with Phil Hughes on the mound instead of CC Sabathia. Hiroki, once again, is going to be pitching in this biggest game of his season and career with the Yankees. Not that Girardi helped him by throwing out all of our relievers last night knowing how Hiroki would probably be on a short leash since he is going on short rest for the first time in his career but hey what do I know. Just get it done...

Derek Jeter Has A Broken Ankle

I'm in awe of what Raul Ibanez has done for this team, but I really wish he would have left his cape in the clubhouse tonight, because if he hadn't done the hero thing again tonight we'd still have Derek Jeter.

Jeter left the game in the top of the 12th inning after scrambling for a ball to his left. At first I thought he'd aggravated his left foot, after fouling a ball off of it the other night. But on replay I saw that he turn his ankle. The scream Derek let out after he landed did nothing to make me feel better.

Now x-rays show that his ankle is broken, and he's lost for the remainder of the postseason. His career is not in jeopardy, so expect to see him in Spring Training next year. But it's up to Jayson Nix and Eduardo Nunez to carry the SS load from here on out.

Lord help us.
