Meet A Prospect : Mark Montgomery

Mark Garrett Montgomery was born on August 30th, 1990 in Williamsburg, Virginia. Mark attended Longwood University in Farmville, VA before being drafted in the 11th round of the 2011 MLB First Year Players Draft. Entering his age 23 season the strike out king has already been drawing huge comparison to fellow Yankee Houdini David Robertson. He has a very projectible frame standing at 5'11" and 205 lbs and he has been intimidating minor league players all of 2012 and throughout the Arizona Fall League. His fastball sits at 92-95 mph comfortably and has nasty late life on it. He easily has the best slider in the entire Yankees system and he uses that as his out pitch since he can somehow control how much break the slider actually breaks.

With a career 1.65 ERA and a 14.6 K/9 ratio saving games in the Gulf Coast League, Low A Charleston, High A Tampa and AA Trenton in the last two seasons. The Yankees finally look like they have a legitimate heir apparent to Mariano Rivera. In his first professional season in 2011 Mark spent time in both Staten Island and Charleston while compiling a 0-0 record with a 1.91 ERA in 28 IP while compiling a mind blowing 51 K's to go with a 1.165 WHIP. In 2012 Mark finished with a 7-2 record with a 1.54 ERA in 46 appearances with 15 saves in 64.1 IP. Mark is known for the Big K and racked up 99 strike outs in 2012 while holding opposing batters to a .157 batting average against. To make a long story short Mark Montgomery was #BeastMode in 2012 and no, he didn't sleep.

ETA: Mid to late 2013
