Is Mustelier A Good 3B Option?

"We’re going to look at him"

That's what Joe Girardi said in response to a question regarding the team trying out Ronnier Mustelier at third base.

I'm not sure if this is a great idea due to Ronnie's defense being a question mark, although I hear that it's gotten better since he first came to the States from Cuba, but it's certainly worth a try. I mean... what harm can it do? Mustelier is batting 6-for-16 so far this spring, with a triple and homer in there, but keep in mind that it's been against AAA-level pitching so far.

  1. Mustelier hits, PERIOD. Moving Jeter to a corner base opens Nunez to also take off at SS and make the corners more solid with the option of Jeter. It may also make Jeter better because you eliminate the range issue.

    1. I'm not following you.

Jeter, Cano, and Youkilis are locks in the infield. And you;'re talking about Nunez playing SS. So I can only assume you're talking about an infield that looks like this...
      1B: Youkilis
      2B: Cano
      SS: Nunez
      3B: Jeter

So where does Mustelier go? Clearly you think his bat should be in the lineup. Unless you think Hafner should not be the DH, and Ronnier goes there. Or maybe you just forgot about Youk, and you're thinking Jeter and Mustelier at the corners.

    2. I forgot to add that Nunez is not a good defender, so having him and Mustelier in the infield (if that's what you were thinking) could be a big problem as Eduardo didn't get the NunEEEE nickname for nothing.
