  1. Good win tonight.

    1) Hughes gave 7 solid innings, Robertson came back strong and they beat a very tough lefty in Price. Every win they can get vs a LHP is big with the weak lineup they have.

    2) No extra base hits but managed 4 runs on just 9 singles because of good execution. Executed 2 successful hit and runs, both of which led to runs. They had some great At Bats in the 9th to take the lead.......Cano battled Price and lined a 3-2 Fastball the other way for a huge lead off single....he then wisely stole Second with a huge jump off Rodney, who is slow to the plate. Overbay then drew a big walk vs Rodney and Ichiro got the clutch hit on a 1st pitch FB.

    3) There were 2 Girardi decisions which had me scratching my head. First off, why didn't he use Brennan Boesch to Pinch hit for Chris Stewart with Bases Loaded and 1 out in the 9th? I thought that would be a definite vs the RH Rodney. All they needed was a Sac Fly to take the lead and Stewart foul-popped out meekly to 1B.

The other head-scratcher was.......why didn't he have Francisco bunt with 1st and 2nd and no outs in a 1-1 game in the 4th inning? They were having problems scoring runs and Francisco flat-out sucks with a .080 Batting Average on the season.

  2. fishjam, the Yanks would be better served to demote Kelly, Francisco, and Boesch and bring up some help in Flores, Montgomery, and Adams.

  3. hold the freaking horses on Flores ok? Monty yes..... Adams yes..... Flores? yikes. relax.

can we see something other than gap power please? look..... trenton is garbage for a power hitter but wow.... put the brakes on!!!! flores could get there, i agree... in fact, i love a guy like him cause he WALKS!...... walks are huge. aside from that though...relax.

  4. It will be interesting to see if Hughes and Nova are turning the corner, this should have been his second start after rehabbing his injury. I think it's time for the Yanks to start thinking about moving Boesch and Francisco down and bringing up Adams and Flores. Romine also could be moved by the middle of June.

  5. Doug...I loathe Francisco and would take Mustelier or Adams over him in a heartbeat. Boesch has some potential and I'd probably keep him until Granderson returns. i don't know why Joe didn't use him to PH for Stewart last night vs Rodney. if you aren't going to use him there, why is he on the team?

I like Flores' potential but I don't think he's ready to bring up, especially just to sit on the bench. He has to get stronger and I'd rather see him get every day ABs in the minors. Musty and Adams are viable options and have nothing more to prove in the minors IMO. Musty may need a couple of games since he just returned from injury.

I also like Zoilo before Flores at this point. Zoilo has legit power, a little speed and is walking a lot more this year. Plus he is a switch-hitter which this team badly needs. The ONLY thing that isn't ideal about Zoilo is he's a much better hitter vs RHP and the yanks need help vs Lefties.....hence Adams and Musty who crush LHP and both have some position versatility.

  6. Hughes looks like he's getting stronger and he had pretty good location. His velocity was solid and he was throwing his little Slider effectively so I think he'll be OK...similar to what he was last year which is a decent mid-back end starter.

  7. fishjam, I agree with you Francisco has to go. Adams needs to get a shot, and Musty is another option after he gets some abs at AAA. I like what I have seen from Zoilio in spring training the last 2 years. Any of these players are a better option than Francisco. I would also give Monty a chance soon and move Kelly down. All in all Girardi has done a good job keeping this team together with all the injuries, I couldn't believe they won last night.
