Morning Bits

Good morning everyone!

The Yankees rallied to beat the Orioles yesterday by a score of 5-4 and moved into second place in the AL East.  Yesterday's win also put the Yankees back into the second wildcard slot in the standings.

Andy Pettitte picked up only his third win since April 19th, allowing nine hits and three earned runs in 6 2/3 innings.

Eduardo Nunez and Lyle Overbay lead the way for the Yankees offensively. Nunez, making his return off the DL from a strained oblique, went 2-3 and drove in two runs including the game winner.  Overbay went 3-4 and scored the winning run.

Mariano Rivera worked a scoreless ninth inning to pick up his 29th save of the year.

The Yankees and Orioles complete their three-game series today in the Bronx with a game time of 1:05 PM ET.  Hiroki Kuroda(7-6, 2.95 ERA) will face Jason Hammel(7-5, 5.19 ERA) this afternoon and the game will be televised by YES.

Now on to today's new links:

John Harper of the New York Daily News writes that Derek Jeter says he's ready to return to the Yankees.

Phil Watson of Yahoo Sports says things are getting closer to normal for the Yankees.

The USA Today has this article about Andy Pettitte tying Bob Gibson on the all-time wins list.

Matthew Stanmyre of the Star-Ledger reports about David Phelps being placed in the 15-day DL and the Yankees hosting Newtown Day.

Have a great day everyone!
