Game 109 Lineup: Yankees @ Padres

Well...let's try this again. Here's today's lineup.

Brett Gardner CF
Robinson Cano 2B
Alfonso Soriano LF
Curtis Granderson RF
Lyle Overbay 1B
Eduardo Nunez SS
Brent Lillibridge 3B
Chris Stewart C
Ivan Nova RHP

Some Notes:

-- Derek Jeter has been scratched from the lineup and will not play for the next two days. Girardi said that if there were a DH then Jeter could have played.

-- David Phelps has been scratched from his start in Trenton due to elbow soreness. He's slated to get tests done.

  1. Ugh....elbow soreness for Phelps? Not good.....hopefully they/he is just being cautious.

  2. The performance of Ivan Nova may be one of the best developments of this shipwrecked season. Just like 2011, Nova has been excellent since returning from the minors. He has scrapped the Slider which led to so many of those extra-base hits last yr and has found his most effective arm slot. he's staying on top and throwing downhill which is giving him nasty downward movement on his Fastball and sharp, crisp tilt on his Curveball.

Nova's always had great physical tools......great size with long arms and big hands....good velocity without maximum effort.....natural movement on his FB......solid mechanics and fluid arm action to develop good breaking pitches. It's been interesting to watch his progression as a pitcher and if he can maintain what he's found this yr while continuing to develop his changeup and refine his command, the Yankees will have a good young pitcher in their rotation for years.

  3. fishjam, it's just shows the art of pitching takes time, Nova looks like a #2 with #1 stuff.

  4. Doug, you are completely right. If Kuroda wasn't on the Yankees staff (let's think that way just for five seconds), the ace of the staff would be Nova. That's how well Nova has pitched. He's almost matching Hiroki Kuroda. Andy Pettitte is also doing a good job this year. He's a number three starter and that's how he's pitched. Hughes is a number four starter and he's pitched that way. The only alarming thing is CC, how he could be so inconsistent this year.

  5. Delia, I agree, CC is a big concern, what makes you scratch your head is his velocity it good sometimes reaching 94. Even the best pitchers lose it once in a while, let's hope it's just a short term thing.

Sorry for the Capatcha... Blame the Russians :)
