Tigers Open To Trading Scherzer Or Porcello

The Detroit Tigers came out yesterday and announced that they would be willing to trade one of their starting pitchers this offseason, namely probably 2013 Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer or Rick Porcello. Should the Yankees be interested in either of these guys? In a word, hell to the yes!

First off Scherzer is going to be way too expensive so do not get your hopes up. He also makes little sense to us for the same reason that the Tigers would be willing to trade him, he is a free agent after the 2014 season and seems unlikely to get a deal hammered out before then. Scherzer pitched a career high  214.1 IP in his age 29 season while compiling a 21-3 record with a 2.90 ERA, 2.70 FIP, 6.7 WAR, and a league leading 0.970 WHIP in 2013. Scherzer came relatively cheap in 2013 with a $6,725,000 but MLBTR expects his salary to double to $13,600,000 in 2014 in his final season of arbitration. I said all that to say this the Detroit Tigers are going to want the absolute world and then some for Scherzer and we just do not have the pieces to fit unfortunately, or maybe it's fortunately with his impending free agency.

Porcello is best known for tackling Kevin Youkilis to the ground like a rag doll little... well you get the picture. Porcello is definitely worth looking at depending on the price because he turns only 25 years old in December and is coming off of a 13-8 record with a 4.32 ERA in 177 innings of work. Porcello is also only in his 3rd year of arbitration so he will be under team control for this season and next with the team that potentially acquires him. Porcello misses enough bats, 7.2 batters per nine in 2013, and is still on the high side of acceptable when it comes to walk, 2.1 batters per nine, to survive in New York at the back end of the rotation. 2013 was probably Porcello's best statistical season and I think it is only up from here for the right handed pitcher. Porcello made $5,100,000 in 2013 and is expected to receive at least a couple million dollar raise in 2014 which makes him still affordable for the Yankees as well as makes us younger, better, and more flexible for not only this season but next as well. The asking price for Porcello may be higher then we are expecting or wanting to pay but if it's close I think we need to go ahead and pull the trigger on this. His stats may not be sexy now but they will in a season or two and I would rather them be with us and not against us.

Take notice Brian Cashman.

  1. Cano wants over 30$$$$$ a year. Hell would freeze over before I'd buy into that deal. A 31-year-old 2nd baseman and a 10 year contract doesn't compute, sorry folks...we've been there and done that stuff.

There is no way I can be worked up over that, let the guy go and get a draft pick. Not much of a trade-off for the talent but paying an infielder that kind of money into his Over the Hill Days is stupid.

Bye the by, I said the same thing when they signed a contract into their 38-40 year range for A-Rod, Jeter, CC and Tex. At that age, forget them, they have had their best days!

  2. Today, I'm patrick Confused. Confused about right field, just as I thought the picture was clearer.
The ride home today, had all the negative types, on the sports talk shows.
I swear half of them are Met fans, and the other half I'm sure are ..... communists.
So who is my 2014 right fielder now that...
    a) Curtis Granderson's wife wants him to go to Chicago. Where did she com from?
    b) Carlos Beltran want 3-4 years, and the Yankees say only two.
    c) Choo wants a 100 million, and can't hit lefties. Jesus.
I had to turn them off, or I was going to drive off a bridge. I like Vernon Wells, but go back to Toronto.
Is it Nelson Cruz , with his clear, and white creams ? Or, some poor soul from AAA, who can't hit ?
    And, it snowed today.

    1. Nelson Cruz, no matter what my colleague Bryan Van Dusen posted earlier today, is not worth the draft pick. I would be willing to give up the pick for a lot of guys but not Cruz. Low BA and too many K's.

  6. Daniel ....truly sorry. Have no idea why 4 posts went up. Second time this has happened.
Please feel free to erase / knock off three of them. It has your site looking out of sorts.
    Again, sorry.

  7. Toronto is a team that is keeping an eye on Cano. Don't listen to what they say. Snakes in the weeds
speak in double speak.................Link that : to the fact, that the Yankees are still in touch with
TB, OF / 2nd. base....Kelly Johnson, and others. That name again.
The Yanks are poised to abort, if Cano gets a hefty offer. ( Not brain surgery there. )
Who will be in Right Field ?

    1. I just wanna point out that I clamored for Kelly Johnson in like August or September if Cano left.. I think Cashman reads my stuff.

The Yankees still want Beltran and are, excuse me while I puke, looking at Choo as well.. so that means it will probably be Ichiro.

See all the Torii Hunter rumors from 2013.

    2. Yes, Brian reads your stuff. You can see it in his body language.
If not...Beltran, Choo, no... not Ichiro !....than who? ( we need, some form of masher ! )

  8. Just listened to Brian Cashman, earlier today, on YES. Being asked, what holes the Yankees have to fill,
and resignings. Seemed like he named almost all positions.
I still like the thought of Joe Nathan, followed by David Robertson. A great stepping off point.
It will get done. Feel it in my bones.

  9. Tommy Twasp, lets end this here. I wish you well, sir.
A reliable source / confidant e-mailed me today. He says that Twasp, the former...Fat Boy Slim, is in negotiations to resurrect the dead site, formerly known as Yankee Fans Unite. He will be joined by
assorted characters ( authors ) that should have been thrown into a moat, filled with mush.
Tommy, I wish you well...but, reread the poem " The Wreck of the Hesperus ", from 1839, before you sign on with that outfit from Creedmoor Psych.
You are the best at what you do, but they will put you in a toilet stall........patrick.

  10. At our last site, a man I respected, had the rug pulled out from under him after working so hard to help Matt keep things going well.
My hope is, he will not let T-Bug get him in the rat pack that will develop over there. Even though this gentleman and I disagreed (Mostly about Jeter) he was always a gentleman.
May he not, go over to the dark side.

    1. Hey I will not beg anyone to come here or to stay, you know? I don't boast about what I am going to do, or who I am. I am more of the lead by example type. If anyone wants to come here I embrace them, if they want to better themselves through this site and after this site please tell me who I can speak with to put in a good word for you or tell me how I can help you. I don't take myself too seriously and I prefer to use my position of "power" for the better, not the worst.

If this man wants to leave and restart the old site I wish them luck. Hell Ill even retweet their stuff on twitter, link their site on the blog, whatever. Name one person who reads only one Yankees blog... probably not many.

  11. Another waste of talent (T-Bug) down the tubes. It is fun going back and forth with each-other. I just didn't know how to counter punch his unwillingness to believe facts but would believe (or pretend to) in oh so many innuendos and outright lies.
He really liked to bring others into our thing...he was a great instigator. What right do I have to a different opinion of Jeter than he and too many others. It always ended up three or four against me, with him coming in late as a Peacemaker...when he started it.
Oh, well...nobody followed his lead over here...although I realize some wanted to.

The close of another page in blogging, never to be opened again...bye Tommy!
