Mariners Offered Cano 10 Years, $230-$240 Million

Holy conflicting reports, Batman!

I think we just lost Robinson Cano as the news broke that the Seattle Mariners are willing to offer Cano a ten year deal worth $230-$240 million. Whether the "baseball legend" or "Yankees legend" pitch worked or not is one thing but the money will probably do all the talking in this negotiation. This would be Cano's final contract of his career and would set him up for life, not that the Yankees potential offer wouldn't. I believe Cano will sign during next weeks Winter Meetings and I am feeling less and less confident that it will be with the Yankees.

  1. I'm reading that the Mariners' offer was actually under $200m.

    1. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Yankees match that offer.

    2. Depending on the years more than the money, Yanks don't want to go 9-10 years...and shouldn't do it, or even think about it.

  2. If the $230M is true, time to move on. Find a replacement at 2nd and focus on the rotation. If Kuroda comes back, they need to try to get another front of the line starter (if Tanaka is available, probability of Yanks getting him will be low). The Ellsbury signing will make it tough to get Tanaka or another top of the rotation starter.

    1. What is your reasoning for the Ellsbury signing making the Tanaka signing unlikely...the Yankees organization is worth ~1.8 billion dollars...

    2. Bryan have you forgotten the Family? They are used to having a high cost of living, that is one of the reasons for saving money...I believe!
The old Man used his own money from his ship building company to pay some of the Yankees cost of doing business...for the first bunch of years! The Brothers and extended family will not do that anymore...of course, it is no longer needed.
What a company is worth and what money they have to play with, are two different things!

    4. Yes, it was, that is why I wrote "of course, it is no longer needed."
