Yankees Inquired About Ervin Santana Recently

According to Darren Wolfson on Twitter the Yankees are among a few teams to inquire about Ervin Santana recently. Per the tweet the Seattle Mariners, Baltimore Orioles, Los Angeles Dodgers, Cleveland Indians, and the Yankees are all interested in Santana's services, although the Minnesota Twins seem to not be involved at this time. Santana is said to be progressing towards a deal, finally, so this is exciting news for those who are in the camp who want Santana on the Yankees in 2014.

I don't think the Yankees would be willing to give up their second round pick for Santana to slot into the fifth starter role but odder things have happened. Santana gives up far too many fly balls or home runs and screams Phil Hughes to me, even in his best season, but he is better than anything we can throw at the wall currently for the fifth starter, on paper anyway.

Hopefully this comes to an end soon.

  1. I live in Kansas City and saw Santana play both in person and on local TV many times last year. And I can assure you Daniel, he's no Phil Hughes. He's not an ace, but he's definitely a guy I'd like to have.

    1. I merely meant he gave up way too many home runs, much like Hughes did. I was in no way comparing the two, although he does seem to be a bit of a headcase in career if you leave out the 2013 season.
