Offense Nonexistent in Middle Game Loss to Indians

Brandon McCarthy surrendered just 2 earned runs in 6 1/3 innings and Derek Jeter passed Honus Wagner on the all time hits list, but since Indians' Starter Corey Kluber threw a gem and the Yankees went 0-for-9 with RISP the latter's three game winning streak was snapped, 3-0, today at Yankee Stadium.

In this one, as you can see by that score, the Yanks pitching was pretty good, once keeping Cleveland off the board for five consecutive frames.

Nonetheless, after Jose Ramirez knocked a two-run home run to right in the top of the second the contest would never again be tied, with Michael Brantley adding a solo shot off Chase Whitley in the eighth.

No, those three trips around the bases shouldn't have been enough for the Indians to emerge victorious, but due to the expected dominance of the aforementioned Kluber (6 IP, O R) they unfortunetaly were, with New York never reaching third on the afternoon despite putting multiple men on base in the fourth, sixth, and eighth.

Interestingly, in that bottom of the sixth the Yankees actually had first and second with nobody out, but again, since Kluber was able to escape the jam with trio of strikeouts the Yanks failed to ever cross home, the first time that's happened since June 22.

  1. Take away two bats (McCann & Tex) and they return to when they couldn't score. Tyler Austin is back, he's having a decent season. Needs to move to AAA, at the least.

    1. It's pretty late in the season to be bringing guys up but I agree. Ride the hot bat and see where it goes.

  2. Can't get it together, it seems. The pitching starts clicking and today it's a second game missing two mayor bats, today it's McCann and Headley out. It usually sends the offense into a tail spin.

Need to think more offensively with the replacements. I'd be with Sanchez catching and Austin in RF. I'd hope one or the other would really be impressive and make it hard to send back down. These are times of opportunity, not a patch work with the starters. It's a pennant race if they haven't notice, go with the real jewels for a few games here.

    1. The offense would be worse right now with Sanchez catching, just saying. Probably worse with Austin in RF too. They are only in AA for a reason.

  3. And we can't figure it out, two lost and we can't figure it out.

  4. Yeah, well they're two of the most promising bats and Suzuki at 40 and Cervelli isn't the answer, not daily anyway. Sanchez and Austin are better hitters right now in any league. Unless you taking years ago with Suzuki and Cervelli will never come close.

  5. Cervelli has hit way above his head this season and did last season before injury.. just saying.

    1. I disagree with that critique of Ciscos hitting this and last year. He has always been a very fine clutch hitter his avg., was never in the range it is now but...I think I can live with his clutch hittiing and lower batting avg.! We all think from his history he is not a .300 hitter, but I'll take what ever he hits, as long as the hits come when they are needed the most!

    2. Mine was not meant as critique, it's more of a pleasantly surprised.
