The New York Yankees are interested in Rusney Castillo and want to work out a contract with the Cuban defector. Castillo is listed as an outfielder but the Yankees are interested in the 27 year old as a second baseman. The Yankees just held a private workout for Castillo on Friday down in Tampa and apparently the team likes what they see. This all via George King.
Castillo has experience both in the infield and the outfield but the Yankees seem to be in the minority in preferring Castillo in the infield. Castillo has been described as a speedy lead off type hitter with pop and has already been declared a free agent by Major League Baseball. Castillo can sign any time with any team and I hope it's with the New York Yankees.
