Greedy Pinstripes Top 28 Prospects List: #27

Prospects Month is in full swing and yesterday we showcased our #28 prospect Johnny Barbato and today we continue those rankings. Today's prospect and #27 on the list is underrated outfielder Taylor Dugas.

Here is the write up from Kyle McDaniel on Dugas:

CF Taylor Dugas (Video 5’9/180 grinder is above average runner that can play all three outfield spots, has an advanced sense for contact at the plate and hit in Triple-A this year, so 4th/5th outfielder could be in his near future)

  1. I'm going to catch up with both prospects with 1 post. Barbato, don't really know anything about him since he came from San Diego. Stats look good, he has closing experience, and he's still pretty young. He could turn out to be higher than a #28 prospect. Who knows? I guess that works for now. I'm not liking your #27 pick though. He might be a gritty type player, but he has absolutely zero power, and our system is loaded with guys like this. Unless you have about 6 or 7 outfielders in front of this guy, I don't think he makes the cut.

    1. He's only 28 because he may need Tommy John surgery. If he didn't I probably have him a lot higher.

To each their own, I like Dugas. I think he could be a Brett Gardner type. Kylie McDaniel, who wrote the write up, disagrees and that is fine.

  2. I know. Gets pretty opinionated and subjective when you're talking about #27 & #28 prospects. I did forget about Barbato and the Tommy John thing though.

    1. That's true. Past like 15 a lot of players become pretty interchangeable. That's why I never understood people going with Top 50 and Top 100 prospects lists for one team.

    2. As Jeff said...'Gets pretty opinionated and subjective when you're talking about #27 & #28 prospects'.
After 10 prospects, it's a crap shoot...as you guys say!
I like Dugas as well, I had mentioned him a couple of times before. Just as with Brett, they say he could become a 4th or 5th OF...wrong (I hope), speed kills in any sport! But for now, #27 is a good enough spot for him.
One guy I like better is Michael O'Neill, shorter than his uncle, faster with the same baserunning instincts! He is a little ways away, that is for sure...maybe two or three years unless he improves his batting average quickly!

  3. I was thinking O'Neill over Dugas as well. But I hate dropping names at this point in the list. Like you said, outside of the top 10, maybe 15, it's a total crapshoot. One player that looks good on paper that I may have slid into this spot is Payton. Memory is escaping me (no Captain involved, just getting old), but I believe his first name is Mike. Center fielder in A ball.

  4. I'm not real big on O'Neill. Honestly I don't even remember if he made my list I would have to go look. Say what you will about Dugas but his MLB readiness and him starting in Triple-A in 2015 swayed my decision some too. O'Neill, at last check, struggled in 2014.

    1. You are right Daniel, O'Neill did have a lot of SO's at the beginning of the season! He seemed to turn it around somewhat at the halfway point.
The only reason in my picking O'Neill over Dugas (whom I like very much) is, the team needs a bit more power this year.

    2. I'll pick the guy in Triple-A over the guy in A Ball any day as far as these lists go unless they are big time prospects. O'Neill isnt.

    3. Yes, I miss spoke! Not this year, I was thinking of the future. A good glove with a bit of speed and power is a corner OF. Mark Payton is not know to me, sorry! Or, at least, not much known about him, by me!

    4. I don't know anything about Payton either Ken. Just his stats. (Which aren't bad) I just have to come up with names to argue with Daniel. I can't help it. It's too much fun.

    5. You have the right attitude Jeff!
I must admit you come up with some good arguments...me not so much, I sometimes think down the line too far.
Keep it going, he loves a good argument! LOL

    6. Neither of you are missing much with Payton. His numbers are deceiving because he was a senior in college. Very polished and very "old" for his level. His numbers should come back down to Earth the longer he sticks around.

And Jeff, you're a jerk lol. JK.

    7. You know, I've been told that before. I can't figure out why though.

    8. I can't either. You're a nice enough guy. Must be the captain talking.

  5. Also Mark Payton was just drafted in 2014
