The New York Yankees are fresh off a long road trip and a
great couple of series against the Tampa Bay Rays and the Detroit Tigers. The
Tigers had the best record in all of baseball heading into the four game series
with New York and after a few losses have fallen behind the latest opponents
for the Yankees, the best record in baseball having New York Mets. The Yankees
offense has shown more than just signs of life over the past couple of weeks
while the defense and pitching is finally settling in to be what it was
expected to be entering the season. Tonight the Yankees and the Mets continue
the annual Subway Series inside Yankee Stadium with Michael Pineda facing off
against 2015 Rookie of the Year Jacob deGrom. The game will be played at 7:05
pm ET and can be seen on the YES Network, WPIX Channel 11, MLB Network and MLB
TV.
- Pineda has not been as dominant as he was in 2014 but still battled through 5.2 IP his last time out against the Tampa Bay Rays. Pineda picked up his second win of the season when he limited the Rays to just three runs last Sunday in the victory for New York. This will be Pineda’s first start against the New York Mets and has only faced to their current hitters.
- deGrom is the reigning Rookie of the Year from the 2014 season and is currently on a 18.1 IP scoreless innings streak heading into the match. deGrom beat the Marlins last time out and has not allowed a run since the first inning of his first start this season when he allowed a solo home run. This is going to be a tough game for the Yankees to win and it’s not looking much easier tomorrow with Harvey on the mound for the Metropolitans.
This is either going to be a very frustrating or very fun
series for the Yankees. While I don’t look forward to all the trolls on Twitter
the first time a Yankee takes a looking strike three or doesn’t hit with
runners in scoring position I do look forward to hopefully rubbing it in those
same faces when the Yankees sweep this series in the Bronx. Make me proud and
make me right, Go Yankees!
