Game Preview: New York Yankees @ Seattle Mariners 6/1

Welcome to June baseball ladies and gentleman as the New York Yankees make the trip to the Pacific North West to take on Robinson Cano and the Seattle Mariners. While New York and Seattle's records are somewhat similar the Mariners are in fourth place in their division while the Yankees are in first place in the American League East division. Tonight inside Safeco the Yankees will send Michael Pineda to the mound to face off with Felix Hernandez for the Mariners. The game will be played at 10:05 pm ET and can be seen on the YES Network and MLB TV.

  • Pineda will face off against the team where his career began for the first time since the 2012 trade that sent Jesus Montero and Hector Noesi to Seattle while Pineda and Jose Campos came back to New York. Pineda starts off the month of June after going 3-2 with a 3.00 ERA in five May starts that included 35 strikeouts in 33 innings. In his career Pineda has a 5-4 record with a 2.92 ERA in 12 career starts inside Safeco Field.

  • Hernandez comes into this start with one of the best records in all of baseball posting an 8-1 record with a 1.91 ERA. Most recently Hernandez pitched a four hit shutout against the Tampa Bay Rays leading the Mariners to a 3-0 victory. In the career of King Felix the Yankee killer has gone 9-5 with a 2.87 ERA in 17 career starts against New York.

When the Yankees face off against King Felix it's always a tough game and an adventure for the Bronx Bombers whether the game comes inside Yankee Stadium or in Seattle. He's a great pitcher and it's a tough matchup so hopefully the Yankees can either jump on him early or get him out early and get into that Mariners bullpen. Fernando Rodney has been an adventure at the end of the bullpen this season so maybe the Yankees can break a few hearts along the way to another series victory.

Go Yankees!
