Weekly Check In: Jorge Mateo

Jorge Mateo was called up to the High-A Tampa Yankees this month and has picked up right where he left off when he was with the Charleston Riverdogs. Mateo hit the ground running in Tampa, pretty much literally, and even earned the Florida State League Player of the Week award for last week after collecting 10 hits in five games including three doubles, a triple and three more stolen bases. Mateo is only in his second professional season of baseball and may eclipse the 100 stolen base mark between his time in Tampa and Charleston, wow.

Mateo earned a big shot of confidence in the arm this season as Yankees GM Brian Cashman reportedly refused to trade him for Craig Kimbrel or any player at the trading deadline and the young 20 year old has done nothing but make Cashman look like a genius for his decision. Mateo has a long way to go before he hits the Major Leagues but at this rate you may not be able to keep him down for much longer, he may make the jump to Double-A as soon as early 2016.
