Former Yankees Update : Ryota Igarashi

So you know it is a slow off season thus far when the first post of the day is updating you on where Ryota Igarashi signed. Ryota has signed a three year deal to pitch in Japan worth an estimated 600 million Yen. Last season with the Yankees in very limited service Ryota gave us 36.2 IP in the minors and a meager 3 IP in the Bronx. What did we expect after getting him off the waiver wire from the Toronto Blue Jays back in May anyway, right? I hope he enjoys his next three seasons in Japan and his, what sounds like, insane salary that comes along with it.

Ryota Igarashi & Darnell McDonald Elect Free Agency

The AAA season is now over and a total so far of 28 players have elected for free agency rather then returning to their current AAA teams, two of them Yankees. Ryota Igarashi and Darnell McDonald will be free agents going into the offseason of 2013. I have to admit that Igarashi was much more valuable then I would have ever imagined in limited spots for us this season so I hate to see him go. Well as much as you can "hate" to see a journeyman AAA reliever go anyway.  McDonald was just a slap in the face of the Red Sox in my opinion so I'm indifferent. Good luck to them both!

Yankees Acquire Derek Lowe

According to Marc Carig's twitter, among other tweets, the Yankees have acquired Derek Lowe off the scrap heap. MLB Trade Rumors is now reporting this too. Now River Avenue Blues is reporting it so this bad dream is now a reality unfortunately.

Apparently the Yankees believe that Derek Lowe throws enough strikes and ground balls to replace CC Sabathia, not David Phelps, for the next two starts.

UPDATE: Joel Sherman, on twitter, is reporting that he was signed because he is willing to pitch out of the pen. David Phelps will in fact be starting Monday in place of CC Sabathia on Monday.

The Yankees will call up Ryoto Igarashi to be in the bullpen tomorrow until Lowe gets here on Monday.

Yankees Call Up Adam Warren & Ryoto Igarashi

The Yankees have called up starter Adam Warren from AAA Empire State Yankees and reliever Ryoto Igarashi. Warren will get the start in his major league debut on Friday in place of CC Sabathia against the Chicago White Sox.

Andy Pettitte has looked great in his previous two starts coming off a year + layoff. He pitches again tonight for the Yankees and faces Angels hurler Dan Haren. The game will be televised on YES and MLB Network at 10:00 pm ET. Lineups to follow.

In other news the Yankees claimed Ryota Igarashi off waivers and have sent him to AAA Empire State Yankees. I know the moniker of "never too much pitching" but you can have too much pitching when you only have so many roster spots. This Scrubs R Us thing is really starting to get old... and it is worrying me that some of our AAA starters are going bye bye in July.

Brad Myers moved to the 60 day DL to make room for Igarashi on the 40 man roster.
