Felix and Seattle Close To Extension

"It's my turn to get paid!"

EDIT: It turns out that it's a 5 year extension worth $135.5 million, but it doesn't start until the 2015 season. So Felix will stay in Seattle through the 2019 season, but the final two years remaining on his current contract will not be overwritten.

For those of you out there counting down the days until the end of the 2014 season, when Felix Hernandez's current contract with the Seattle Mariners is up, so that the Yankees can sign the pitching phenom... I have bad news for you.

Fox Sports is reporting that Felix and the Mariners are close to finalizing a 7 year $175 million contract extension. Apparently the deal is only waiting for a physical examination to take place.

This $25 million a year deal will set a new ceiling for starting pitchers, which could make the future deals of Justin Verlander and Clayton Kershaw very interesting.
