2015 Free Agency Royal Rumble – Outfield

Ladies and gentleman welcome to the 2015 Major League Baseball free agency Royal Rumble brought to you by The Greedy Pinstripes. Tonight we have all the potential bench outfield options for the New York Yankees heading into this winter in one ring vying for the contract of a lifetime, let’s go down to the ring.

In the red corner stands Michael Cuddyer, in the blue corner stands Mike Morse, in the green corner stands Yasmany Tomas, and in the black corner stands Chris Young. Let’s get it on!

Chris Young takes his New York tested and American League East proven badge and hits the relative unknown Yasmany Tomas and knocks him out cold. While bragging Michael Cuddyer takes one big power stroke and knocks Young over the top rope and to the floor. Cuddyer hurt himself on the play and had to be removed leaving Morse and Young along in the ring. Morse the big lug he is had no defense at any position for Young as the center fielder make quick work of Morse to win the contract of a lifetime.

Chris Young receives a one year deal worth $5 million for winning the match.

  1. ROYAL RUMBLE....cont :
Michael Cuddyer climbs back into the ring, holding a sack, containing two mirrors.
Now handing one to Chris Young, Cuddyer screams..." Lets see what we see ! "

Chris Young says he sees....in 2014, for the Mets & Yankees, this is what I did :
    AB...325 BA...222 HR...11..RBI 28 SLG...385 OPS...683.

Michael Cuddyer laughs at Young, and says " Look at my numbers !! "
    AB...190 BA...332 HR...10 RBI...31 SLG...579 OPS...955

With that, Joey ' The Wolf Boy ' midget, grabs the microphone, and declares Cuddyer the winner !
Young, now faints, as Brian Cashman shakes hands with his new outfielder.

    1. Oy Vay, Patrick...
Cuddyer or Young, what shall we do, my oh my? Let me count the ways we can use someone much more contract frindly.

    2. Don't think either will command a big salary at all Reed. They are fourth outfielders. Honestly I wrote this before I came up with the Torii Hunter idea.

Bring me Hunter, the hell with these guys.

    3. Patrick you must also remember that this team is old, Cuddyer is older, and injury prone, Cuddyer is more injury prone, so I was more or less trying to get away from that with the Young pick.

  2. Kenneth & Daniel....good evening. Good to be back.
Torii Hunter.....free agent ? Five years older than Cuddyer ? Offense, Offense, Offense...please.

    1. Hunter is older but not in deep decline, not injury prone. Hunter would have led the team in RBI this season and has played over 140 games in his last 4 seasons. Cuddyer not so much.

  3. I'm sure I'm going to get crucified for saying this, but screw Cuddyer, Young, and Hunter. Bring me Judge. Not all players need 5 years in the minors. He was a 3 year college player at Fresno State, which is a very good baseball school. Let him show what he has and hope he's our version of Giancarlo. If they sign Hunter then so be it. He's the only one of the 3 that would be worth a 1 year deal. If they don't sign Hunter, I want to see one of our own. It's time to start building the new "core". You can't do that in free agency. And sometimes careers need to be justified. Refsnyder, Lindgren, Judge, Bird, Green, and Sanchez could be our guys. Let's push the envelope.

    1. One more year Jeff, talent will show itself better with one more year. Also, he will learn a lot about his game and THE game never knew.

  4. FYI, justified was supposed to be jumpstarted. Damn spellcheck!

  5. While I would normally agree Jeff on this I cant. If you were asking to make Beltran the every day DH and make Judge the every day RF'er I wouldn't disagree. Learn on the fly. I don't want Judge sitting on the bench three or four nights a week, that kills development.

He has had one season in the minor leagues, he needs seasoning.

    1. I will agree with you on that part Daniel, but not on those over the hill players.
How many times have I said (and proven right) very good to great players have one outstanding year before the fall.
I don't care about any older player having a good year, last year, they very seldom repeat that good year. I am not saying they can't or won't, I am saying, history has shown that the odds are not good.
I will and have gambled on the performance of people in all walks of life but, when your ass is on the line (as is this team) one goes for the sure thing or, with what one has.

    2. But it's not like Hunter had a great season last year. He had a solid year and a year that sat right in with his career averages for the past four seasons. You can pretty much tell what you're going to get from Hunter. Remember, we're also talking about a fourth outfielder here too... not an every day player.
