Game Preview: New York Yankees vs. Detroit Tigers 6/21

The New York Yankees will play host to the Detroit Tigers one more time this weekend inside Yankee Stadium with a hell of a pitching matchup this afternoon. On the mound for the Yankees will be Masahiro Tanaka who will be pitching on an extra day of rest while the Tigers will send Anibal Sanchez to the mound also on an extra day of rest. The game will be played at 1:05 pm ET and can be seen on the YES Network and MLB TV.

  • Tanaka has never beat the Detroit Tigers in his career although the sample size has been just one game in his career. Tanaka is coming off a start where he took the loss to the Miami Marlins allowing just two runs in seven innings worth of work.

  • Sanchez is coming off a start where he pushed his run of consecutive scoreless innings to 20.2 innings against the Cincinnati Reds. I can't see Sanchez running that much higher against the Yankees this afternoon but I've been wrong before.

The Yankees stay home in the Bronx to play host to the Philadelphia Phillies for a three game set before heading out west to take on the surprising Houston Astros inside Minute Maid Park. New York is hanging around in the American League East and Tanaka looks to keep the team within striking distance of first place tonight in the Bronx. Go Yankees!
