Game Thread: New York Yankees @ Toronto Blue Jays 9/23

The New York Yankees and the Toronto Blue Jays, the top two teams in the American League East Division race and two playoff bound teams, one last time. The Yankees will send Ivan Nova to the mound tonight to fill in for the injured Masahiro Tanaka while the Blue Jays counter with Marcus Stroman. The game will be played at 7:05 pm ET and can be seen on the YES Network, ESPN and MLB TV.

The Yankees have eight more regular season games and at least one more playoff game inside Yankee Stadium this season so it’s imperative to click the Yankees Tickets link at the top of the blog now to secure your seats before they, and the season, are gone. Also be sure to jump on Twitter and give @GreedyStripes a follow to interact with us during the games while we root, root, root for the home team and if they don’t win I may rant (which is always fun to watch).

Happy Super Nova Day? It doesn’t have the same ring to it but I could be wrong, the only person who knows for sure is Nova himself. Go Yankees!

  1. I was hoping no one would notice that (like me) Brett swings at the high fastball every time he has two strikes. Everyone knows it now, after two strikes they throw it high and...good by!

    Back to three behind again!

    1. Gardner does and Greg Bird is following suit..... and the league knows it.

  2. People that say..." I just want to talk ball." Need to get a life. What an annoying phrase.
That's the furthest thing from what I do. The mind set is too bizarre for me.

That said...............Greg Bird, who immediately reminded me of a young Paul O'Neill. I have
    a question.
In year 2016, with a healthy Mark Teixeira, what is Bird's role ?
He has added a spark to this squad. Will they send him back to AAA ? Dumb.
Is he a back up ? Playing once a week ? Dumb.
They will not trade Bird, nor can they trade Teixeira. So where do they go ?

That's not talking ball. People that want to do that, go to batting cages in New Jersey.

Why does 'bread sticks' Levin post everything twice ?

    1. If you actually read the posts you would know, and then redundant questions would not be asked. As far as Bird, his stellar play has probably earned him a trip to Scranton. I don't think they can carry 2 first base only players.

    2. I've read in numerous places that the team plans to have Bird work some right field, first base and DH in 2016. The rotation will be Teix, Bird, A Rod and Beltran with Bird getting into five or six games a week while keeping everyone else fresh and healthy.

    3. That would work. I just remember Cashman saying that Bird was not "athletic" enough to consider playing him in the outfield. I guess that opinion changed when he found out Bird could hit the way he has.

    4. 2016...a transition year for many.

The face of the team will begin to change next year.
The Yankees could finish 2015 with 90 wins. Better then some predicted.
Not the strongest contender put forward. Too many contract bumps in the road.
But a step in the right direction, albeit.

You know I put out a post yesterday, re: 'Talking Ball'.... It was too negative, and was not
      meant to be so.
To all of you, I apologize. I came across as being to broad brushed. Sorry.

In truth, it was a shot across the bow to another poster. And, it still is.

My aim is to never offend anyone that can not take it. He can.

Jeff Levin :....I do read all the posts. As time goes by, things change.
I was only looking to see what you guys thought recently.

    5. The problem with 2016 is that the only free agents are Chris Young, Chris Capuano and various minor players. The only position that looks to be open, barring a trade, a retirement or a contract buyout/DFA is second base, 4th outfielder and a few bullpen spots.

      Das it.
