Game Preview: New York Yankees @ Chicago White Sox 6/28

The New York Yankees and the Chicago White Sox are back at it again tonight in windy Chicago as these two clubs face off for the third time in their four-game set. In the third matchup of the series the Yankees will send their ace and stopper Masahiro Tanaka to the mound, Happy Tanaka Day Yankees family, while the White Sox will counter with Carlos Rodon. Even when he struggles I still enjoy watching Tanaka pitch, maybe I’m in the minority here, so this should be a fun one to watch.

Tanaka looked like vintage Tanaka in his last start which was a sight for sore eyes after losing six of his previous seven starts prior. Tanaka logged eight shutout innings last time out improving his overall record to 5-7 and his season ERA to 5.74. Those numbers still aren’t great but the good news for the righty and for the Yankees is that there is still plenty of season to go and the Yankees are still in first place despite his struggles.

Rodon will make his season debut tonight against the Yankees after starting the season on the disabled list with left biceps bursitis. Rodon isn’t expected to be on a pitch limit or innings limit tonight after a long rehab process so it’s time for Rodon to test out the bicep and his main out pitch, his slider.

The game will be played at 8:10 pm ET inside Guaranteed Rate Field, seriously the name of this stadium really irks me, and can be seen on the YES Network and MLB TV. Game time in the Bronx between the New York Yankees and the Toronto Blue Jays. Happy Tanaka Day ladies and gentleman! The New York Yankees will send Masahiro Tanaka to the mound tonight to square off with Mat Latos for the Toronto Blue Jays. Happy Labor Day from The Greedy Pinstripes. What is Labor Day? Is it simply an excuse to not go to work and get paid for it? Is it an excuse to day drink on a Monday and grill out with the family and friends? Well kinda, yeah. Labor Day is considered to be the official end of summer and it was a day given to the American worker that kept the American economy and such going.

So thank you to everyone who makes Labor Day possible and thank you to everyone for your continued support of this blog and everything it does. It is truly appreciated. Now stop reading and go start day drinking and grilling out and all that jazz. We'll still be here when you get back.

Game Preview: New York Yankees @ Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 8/19

The New York Yankees made the trip across the country to the beautiful state of California to take on the team that doesn’t know what part of California they want to be affiliated with, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim of Orange County of Disney World of the Golden Gate Bridge. In all seriousness though the Yankees begin a series with Mike Trout and the Angels tonight at possibly the perfect time for New York as Los Angeles has really struggled over the past two-to-three weeks losing many, many games. Will the Yankees continue to hand the Angels “L’s” or will they fall into the trap? The man donned with the mission to do the former and not the latter for the Yankees is Masahiro Tanaka while the Angels will counter with Jered Weaver looking for a victory of his own.

Tanaka has won each of his last two starts for the Yankees while striking out eight opposing batters in each of those two victories. Tanaka looks to make that three in a row tonight in Los Angeles as he also looks to end the Yankees mini two-game losing streak.

Weaver on the other hand was not great in his last start or the two starts prior to that as well. In fact Weaver has lost each of his last three decisions including a five run and 10 hits allowed effort last time out against the Cleveland Indians. Yeah, more like that tonight Jered please.

The game will be played at 10:05 pm ET inside Angel Stadium of Anaheim and can be seen on Fox Sports One and MLB TV. Thank goodness this is a Friday game because I’ve been sick all week and the thought of staying up until 1:00 am or even 2:00 am on a weekday doesn’t really excite me like it used to. I’ll do what I have to do to root for my boys though, believe that. Go Yankees!

Game Preview: New York Yankees vs. Boston Red Sox 9/30

The New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox will play in the penultimate game of their head-to-head season series tonight in the Bronx on Tanaka Day. The New York Yankees will welcome back their ace starting pitcher to the mound tonight as Masahiro Tanaka makes his first start since injuring his hamstring against the New York Mets. Opposing Tanaka will be Wade Miley for the Boston Red Sox. The game will be played at 7:05 pm ET and can be seen on the YES Network and MLB TV.

• Tanaka will make his first start since September 18 tonight after sustaining a Grade 1 hamstring strain. Tanaka tried to leg out a bunt against the New York Mets and suffered the injury that kept him out almost two weeks. Tanaka has one more tune up before the AL Wild Card start next week.

• Miley is coming into this start fresh off a loss where he gave up four runs. Miley started the game out strong throwing five innings of shutout baseball allowing just two hits before the train came off the tracks in the loss for Boston.

New York has one more game against the Boston Red Sox this season and one more home game during the regular season, that game comes tomorrow night inside Yankee Stadium. The season is winding down and we’re finally starting to get some clarity and assurances about the postseason, a postseason that will include the New York Yankees for the first time since 2012. All they have to do is win, Go Yankees!

Game Thread: New York Yankees @ Houston Astros 6/27

You know what the best part about afternoon games for the New York Yankees is? I have an excuse not to be outside cutting the grass or working on my honey-do list during the hottest part of the day, thank you MLB schedulers! Anyway I just had to get that out, this afternoon the Yankees and the Astros will face off for the third time in this four game weekend series inside Minute Maid Park. The Yankees will send Masahiro Tanaka to the mound, Happy Tanaka Day by the way, to face off against LHP Brett Oberholtzer of the Astros. The game will be played at 4:10 pm ET and can be seen on the YES Network and MLB TV.

The Yankees and Astros have one more game in Houston before the Yankees start playing those middle of the damn night games again on the west coast. Preview: New York Yankees vs. Oakland Athletics 6/5

The New York Yankees and the Oakland Athletics will play in a getaway game for both clubs this afternoon at Yankee Stadium. The Yankees will send Masahiro Tanaka to the mound, Happy Tanaka Day by the way, to face off with Drew Pomeranz for the Athletics. The game will be played at 1:05 pm ET and can be seen on the YES Network, MLB Network, MLB TV, and can be heard on the radio with John Sterling and Suzyn Waldman on WFAN.

Tanaka is making his first start of the month of June after capturing the AL Pitcher of the Month Award for the month of May. Tanaka allowed just four hits and an unearned run last Saturday against the Minnesota Twins at home in Yankees Stadium for his eight victory of the season. Tanaka has a league leading 2.06 ERA this season and has thrown over 100 pitches nine times in eleven starts this season.

Pomeranz is coming off a start in which he allowed five runs in 5.2 innings against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Pomeranz had allowed just five earned runs in 32.2 innings all season long before his last outing. All in all Pomeranz got the victory and improved his record to 5-2 on the season.
