As you can see by the list former Yankees Bruce Billings, Allen Watson, Gary Sheffield, Tom Gordon, Ron Coomer, Danny McDevitt, Clay Bellinger, Deacon McGuire and Jim Marquis were born on this day. Other notable players included David Ortiz, Dante Bichette, Jamie Moyer, and CJ Wilson. 

Scott Boras is in Hot Water

Scott Boras may be in some hot water after a report came out that the agent attempted to cover up Manny Ramirez’s steroid use. According to the report Boras attempted to get Biogenesis founder Anthony Bosch to fabricate certain records to overturn Manny’s 50 game suspension. This dates back to May of 2009 when the suspension was handed down by Major League Baseball.

Naturally Boras denied all the allegations and denies ever having met Mr. Bosch in his life, and why wouldn’t he? Ramirez, now out of the game, refused to take a phone call or talk about the allegations. The cover up was detailed by saying that with the proper patient charts Ramirez could state that he accidentally used his elderly uncle’s testosterone cream believing it was aftershave. The cream apparently contained hcG, a fertility drug that is banned by MLB.

When caught and suspended Manny was quoted as saying his doctor prescribed the medication that forced the positive test for “personal health issues” with no further explanation. Multiple sources after the fact stated the substance linked to the failed test was hcG so this story, at least on the surface, seems to hold water. Stay tuned, the Bronx may still be burning when it comes to Alex Rodriguez a former Boras client. 

But this is pertaining to Manny, that's probably why this is the first you're reading about it. 

Heyman: Yankees Could Still Pursue Tigers' Scherzer This Offseason

Earlier this offseason, it was reported by numerous sources that the Yankees didn't plan to pursue any of the top free agents available.

Now, though, it appears the team is making an exception to that rule. According to CBS Sports' Jon Heyman, the Yankees met with Max Scherzer's agent shortly after last week's GM meetings, and that New York is currently considering a revisit of their earlier plan.

From Heyman's article:

"If there's one name that seems to intrigue them it's very likely Scherzer, baseball's leader in wins (55) and strikeouts (723) among all pitchers over the past three seasons.

Scherzer looks like such a standout as a free agent -- a 30-year-old pitcher with a dynamic fastball, stellar change-up and slider, and an emerging curve -- that it's been shocking to see such abject silence to this point. In a way, though, it's not such a surprise, as the biggest free agents often take the longest to find suitable landing spots."

Heyman wrote that the Yankees still have no interest in ex-Red Sock Jon Lester, who played for the A's during the second half of 2014. Lester and Scherzer are both expected to ask for a lot of money this winter, and the Yankees likely don't want to have to give it to both of them.

Nonetheless, this finding shows for the first time that the Yankees are looking to acquire outside pieces. Up until today, their interests have essentially been limited to guys like Brandon McCarthy, Chase Headley and Stephen Drew, each of whom spent part of last season with them.

Brian Cashman Wants to Emulate Kansas City’s Bullpen, That Sounds Familiar

Late last week and into the weekend we all digested the YES Network’s interview that the awesome Jack Curry had with Yankees GM Brian Cashman and now we get to pick it apart this week. In the interview Cashman stated that re-signing David Robertson was the team’s top priority this offseason. The reasoning behind putting Robertson ahead of a Chase Headley or a replacement shortstop was that Cashman wanted to use the Kansas City Royals shutdown bullpen from 2014 as a model to build their bullpen after in 2015 and beyond. Boy does that sound familiar.

Remember HERE when I said the same exact thing last month? If not there then what about HERE? Or HERE? I am in no way suggesting that Cashman reads my stuff or gets his ideas from me but it is refreshing that maybe a good decision is on the way for once. Many around Twitter and such see no reason to keep Robertson around when Dellin Betances is going “to be the next Mariano Rivera circa 1997” but I see Robertson as a huge asset that would not be replaced as easily as John Wetteland was after 1996.

I said all that to say this, good work Cashman. Bring the team the best bullpen you can and turn these games into five or six inning games for the starters. It’s 2015 and the New York Yankees may finally be acting like it.

This Day in New York Yankees History 11/18: Clemens Edges Mattingly

On this day in 1986 the Yankees first basemen Don Mattingly misses out on winning back to back Most Valuable Player awards as the Red Sox pitcher Roger Clemens would win the award. Clemens received 19 of the 28 first place votes and became the first pitcher to win the award since Vida Blue won the award in 1971. Mattingly won the award in 1985 and would have been one of the few to win back to back MVP awards had he won the award.
