Trenton Thunder Game Recap 4/23

Gamel, Segedin Lead Thunder to 9-5 Win Over Akron

The Thunder jumped out to an 8-0 lead after four innings and held off a furious RubberDuck comeback on their way to a 9-5 victory at ARM & HAMMER Park on Wednesday night.
The home team scored in each of their first four at-bats capped off by a four-run fourth inning. In that fourth, Ben Gamel doubled in his second run of the game and Rob Segedin hit a three-run home run off Akron starter Will Roberts.
Roberts allowed eight runs, six earned, on six hits and three walks in five innings of action. The right-hander suffered his second loss of the season.
The RubberDucks nearly got him off the hook as they rallied for five runs during their fifth, sixth and seventh inning at-bats. In the seventh, Joe Wendle hit his second home run of the season; a two-run shot that brought Akron within three.
Thunder first baseman Kyle Roller knocked a solo home run into the Delaware River in the bottom of the seventh. Roller's fourth home run of the season gave the Thunder the final margin.
Ben Gamel extended his on-base streak to 18 games with a 3-for-5 effort.
Zach Nuding earned his second victory of the season with five and ⅓ innings of two-run ball. He allowed just two runs on seven hits and struck out six.
The Thunder complete their four-game series with the Akron RubberDucks Thursday morning at 10:35 a.m. It's Education Day at ARM & HAMMER Park. The Thunder starter is to be announced, the 'Ducks will counter with RHP Kyle Davies (1-1, 3.50). Listen live on 91.3 WTSR and TrentonThunder.com beginning at 10:15 a.m.
