This is a bit of a disconcerting post and I hated writing it but it must be seen, and cannot be unseen. The 2013 Yankees were a better team through May then the 2014 Yankees team was, unfortunately that is fact.
The Yankees record through May 2013: 31-23 (2nd place)
The Yankees record through May 2014: 29-25 (2nd place)
2013 Run Differential: +18
2014 Run Differential: -10
You can argue that the Yankees were running high off contributions from Vernon Wells that nobody expected to last a full season and that's why the team was better, uh hello? Yangervis Solarte anyone? No one knows how long the Solarte fire will burn, although I hope for all season long.
The Yankees had an excuse last season, they don't this season. Unacceptable.
