8/13 Yankees Open Game Thread vs. Baltimore Orioles

Welcome to tonight's open thread for the finale of a quick two game set between the New York Yankees and the Baltimore Orioles. This is basically a must win for the Yankees if the team has any aspirations of making the postseason this year or winning the AL East division. The Yankees welcome back Michael Pineda off the disabled list tonight to start for the injured David Phelps. The Orioles will counter with Chris Tillman who has had a strong second half this season and usually gives the Yankees fits when he is on the mound. The game will be played at 7:05 pm ET and can be seen on the YES Network, ESPN and Wednesday Night Baseball, MLB TV, and can be heard on the radio with WFAN.

Remember to grab a pair of Yankees tickets off the blog while you're here and skip all those annoying fees or shipping costs associated with other sites. Be sure to follow us on Twitter by following @GreedyStripes and Like our page on Facebook by searching for The Greedy Pinstripes.

It's an open thread so feel free to use the comments section to talk about whatever you would like. We like to give our readers free reign (within reason) in the comments section, for better or worse. Enjoy the game Yankees family and enjoy the rest of your evening. Go Yankees!

  1. RUSNEY CASTILLO : Just watched the newest video of Castillo, auditioning for the scouts
    from interested MLB teams.
I'm no scout, just the son of Irish immigrants. But, this is an athlete. ..5'9"..205 lbs.
His speed, and power stood out. The arm was better than advertised. To me, a player.
Finally, I have numbers on him :

Career statistics from the Cuba Serie Nacional.
    .315....AVG.
    .380....OBP..
    .501....SLG.
    .881....OPS.

Lets change the chemistry, and go after the last 50, or so games. What is put out daily, will
not get it done. It is so obvious.
    Release / move....Ichiro.
Do the same with either Drew, or Ryan. Perhaps both.
Insert Castillo. Insert Ryfsnyder. Insert Byrd / Roller. ( Insert, as into the 25 man roster )

Grab our bullet riddled flag, check your side arm, speak with Jesus....sound the buggle,
and lets go at those SOB's.
Hitting is contagious. It is way past due, to stir this pot with fresh blood.

  2. Byrd is barely in AA. Castillo, Ref, and Roller though make this team better. Roller is more offense only but when we were desperate last year for offense we added a comparable player in Mark Reynolds without blinking an eye.

Bring me Castillo. He fits into the now plans and the future plans.

  3. Why are we not done with Shawn Kelly? He's terrible! A reliever with a career era around 4.00 is not good!!

  4. Jeff Levin....Shawn Kelly ? There are true youngsters at the ready.
Start with Webb, and this years second round pick Jacob Lindgren.

Change is good. It is time.

  5. It's past time. I hate to point out the obvious. But, I see no fight in this offense at all. I say offense because I do not want to berate the team. It's almost ironic that Paul O'Neil just had a plaque put in Monument Park. Let's talk about this. He was appropriately nicknamed the"warrior". We have very few of these left. Daniel has been posting a series about homegrown talent vs. free agents. Great series. One thing needs to be pointed out though. These free agents that were acquired were "warriors". They didn't give away at bats. They played the game like they wanted to kick your ass!! It didn't matter if they were down by 6 runs in the bottom of the ninth. You had to get them out because they weren't going to get themselves out. I don't see that with this team. I see a bunch of guys that are worried about themselves and what ESPN might say about them on Sportcenter.

  6. You're right Jeff. The days of Scott Brosius, Tino Martinez, and Paul O'Neill specifically are long gone. In their place is Mark "I'm a puss" Teixeira and a cast of clowns that make an out in under four pitches almost every time.

  7. Anyone that doesn't see the disaster called, "The Yankees" by now...is beyond help!
I hate to sound like a "Sunny Day Yankee Fan" but, this team is a big "Cluster F-ck". Now is the time for the kids to come up and play, see what they can or can't do.
Wishfull thinking because of the 40 man and Sept, call up. At the call-up, I expect to see, at the minimum, 5 kids playing...most of the time to the end of the season.

  8. No progress towards returning to contention.
Or, as the Rocket simply states...." a big cluster f---k "
