Mark Teixeira's Goodbye from the Yankees

REMINDER: Two Days Left Until We Moon Big Papi

This is not a joke, nor is this a drill. There is an organization out there trying to get as many people as possible to moon Big Papi during his final game inside Yankee Stadium. What are they going to do? Kick out and lock up 40,000 people for showing their butt to a baseball player? I would hope not anyway.

Head over to MoonBigPapi.com and check out what they have planned. If you’re going to the stadium Thursday night at least consider it, there is no bigger sign of respect for a player that killed the team we love for so many years than to show him our butt’s while he rides off into the sunset.

Article Revisit: David Ortiz Farewell Tour Gift Ideas

This post was originally posted back in January shortly after the Red Sox slugger announced that 2016 would be his final season. With the final games of David Ortiz's regular season inching closer and closer I thought it would be interesting to look back at this post as we wait for tonight's game between the two clubs on ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball. Enjoy and add any ideas you may have down in the comments section below.

David Ortiz of the Boston Red Sox is retiring after the 2016 season and despite the “rivalry” that goes on between Boston and the New York Yankees the organization is planning on honoring Ortiz later this season. Now Ortiz has asked to not be honored and has said that he doesn’t want a farewell tour, although if you don’t want a farewell tour you don’t announce your retirement a year in advance but I digress, but apparently that has fallen on deaf ears in the Bronx. The Red Sox have showed much class and respect to former Yankees being honored along the way including Mariano Rivera and Derek Jeter so it’s only right that New York does the same for Ortiz. Hal Steinbrenner says he has no idea what the team is planning to do for Ortiz later on this season so me, being the helpful guy that I am, I have a few ideas for gifts for the old man.


First idea I had was a framed copy of the drug test he failed since so many people have conveniently forgotten about it or have chosen to ignore it. Maybe a framed copy of the Mitchell Report as well but only as a gag gift since he failed a test but wasn’t on the report that was conducted by a Boston senator.


Second idea I had was a substantial gift card to GNC. Remember his post in Derek Jeter’s Players Tribune where he wrote that he probably failed the test because of a substance “he got at GNC in the damn mall somewhere,” he’s got to be missing whatever that substance was. He has kids now and he is going to need all the energy he can get as he enters his 40’s and 50’s.


Third idea I had was a serious one, a substantial donation to an organization that helps young people and young players learn the game of baseball. Ortiz is well known for working with young people and young players not only on their life goals but their baseball goals as well. This is a fun post that is poking some fun at Ortiz but not enough is said about what he does off the field.


Enough of that praising Ortiz stuff though as we bring you the final idea for his farewell tour gift. You ever see those meme’s on Facebook and such that has the children dancing in the village saying that whichever team loses the Super Bowl, World Series or the 2004 ALCS that their championship shirts are shipped overseas and they should be there Monday? We’re going to give him the New York Yankees 2004 ALCS Champions shirt!

This has got to be the absolute greatest thing I have ever seen in my entire life. MoonBigPapi.com is a movement to honor the Red Sox legend the only way he should be honored inside Yankee Stadium, by showing him our asses before the door hits him in his. I’m actually being a little tongue in cheek right now because I do have a lot of respect for him and what he has done for the game, hissy fits, failed steroid tests, drama with Alex Rodriguez and hugs with former Commissioner Bud Selig aside, but would this not be fitting? Just a little?


Think of it this way. If say five or even ten fans moon Big Papi in his final game and in his final at bat they are likely going to jail after being escorted out of the stadium but what are they going to do to 40,000 of us? Is there enough room in the local jails for 40,000 inmates and detainees that mooned the Yankees most-hated rival inside of Yankee Stadium? I wouldn’t think so. They can’t arrest us all! Moon Big Papi!!!

Yankees Best Win of the First Half

The New York Yankees first half of their 2016 campaign did not exactly go as planned, that is an understatement, but there were a few defining wins to focus on. The Yankees did take three-of-four from the first place Cleveland Indians right before the break including a scrappy win in Game One, an extra innings win in Game Three and a slugfest victory in the finale of the first half but I wouldn’t call any of them the Yankees best or biggest win of the first half. I couldn’t put my finger on just one game though so here are three to choose from. Which one would you choose? And if it’s not one of these three then which one is it? Leave it below in the comments section. 

My obvious pick and initial pick went to that game with the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox on May 7^th. No one will remember that game by the date but all Yankees fans will know what you’re talking about when you tell them it’s the game that David Ortiz threw a hissy fit in and got ejected in the 9^th inning after being struck out by Andrew Miller. Ortiz was up with the bases loaded down 3-2 to New York when a 3-1 slider crossed up Brian McCann and was called for a strike. Ortiz screamed “no” many times only to take another slider for strike three to end the at bat. Ortiz was seen throwing equipment and barking at the umpire in the dugout after the strikeout and was ultimately tossed. Ortiz then rushed the umpire to get his two cents in but in the end the Yankees won after Hanley Ramirez grounded out to end the contest. Farewell tour gift idea? A pacifier. 

Almost a month later to the day the Yankees were facing off against a tough pitcher in Matt Shoemaker from the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Shoemaker held the Yankees scoreless for six innings before Brian McCann and Starlin Castro went back-to-back, belly-to-belly, with two outs in the seventh inning to tie the game at two. In the eight All-Star Carlos Beltran hit a two-out, three-run home run to give the Yankees a 5-2 lead and eventual victory to send the fans home happy in the Bronx. 

The final game I had in mind for the Yankees best win of the first half was a game played on June 29^th against the American League’s best record holders, the Texas Rangers. The Yankees were down 7-4 in the 9^th inning and facing off with the Rangers closer Sam Dyson when Brian McCann connected for a three-run game-tying home run in the bottom of the ninth. Starlin Castro would follow McCann and would draw a walk before Didi Gregorius slapped a fastball over the right field wall in right giving the Yankees a walk off victory.

The Yankees probably wanted more than 44 wins at this point in the season but at least some of them give you hope that the Yankees offense is alive and could be formidable if everyone starts clicking at once. What was your favorite moment from the first half?

Don’t Worry Tampa, No Pressure

Last year on Mariano Rivera’s farewell tour the Tampa Bay Rays had a very unique and very cool sculpture of the last man to wear #42 made of sand. This year Derek Jeter is retiring so Tampa and their executives may feel some pressure to up the ante and out-do themselves this season but fear not, the bar has been set low by the Baltimore Orioles. The Tampa Bay Rays have no pressure on them this time around as I cannot see them putting out anything worse than what the Orioles did Sunday night.

The Orioles, as we all know by now I’m sure, gave Jeter a captain’s hat, a huge mallet, and a bucket of crabs. The captain’s hat I get, I appreciate, and I thought was clever and thoughtful. The mallet I think was just a reason to get that stupid mascot onto the field and into the festivities. The bucket of crabs though, really? You gave our starting shortstop crabs?

This script just writes itself. As Tampa gets ready to honor the Yankee captain this week at Tropicana Field I reiterate, no pressure. At least your gift won’t be ranked last.

Recap & Ranking The Derek Jeter Farewell Tour Gifts

The most creative gift has to go to the Texas Rangers but they had a little help from President George W. Bush while the gift most likely classified as "going through the motions" has to go to the Kansas City Royals. No gift from Kansas City, just a donation to the Turn 2 Foundation. Honestly that's probably what Derek Jeter would have had each team do but who buys the person socks and underwear for Christmas when they ask for it? If I had to make a Top 5 list I would go with the Rangers gift, the Mets gift, the Tigers gift, the Blue Jays gift, and the Angels gift.
