Dodgers Extend Kershaw, Likely Out On Tanaka

The Los Angeles Dodgers got their man in Clayton Kershaw and will likely lead to the Yankees getting their man in Masahiro Tanaka. The Dodgers extended Kershaw seven years and the deal is worth $215 million. The deal includes an opt out clause after just five seasons, Kershaw's age 30 season conveniently. Surely this has to take the Dodgers out of the sweepstakes for Tanaka doesn't it? Kershaw's AAV is $30.714 and how they could find room to bring in Tanaka as well is beyond me. If they do, and write this down, I am buying the domain for the Greedy Dodgers and I am branching out because that would be absolutely insane. Good news for the Dodgers and probably better news for the Yankees today.

  1. Well Daniel, they're saying they're still going after Tanaka. That's probably BS, but you never know.

    1. I'll believe it when I see it. Can't see them having a $30 mill AAV pitcher and another which will probably be close to $20 mill AAV being thrown in a rotation with already big money guys like Josh Beckett, Ryu, and Billingsley.

  2. ICHIRO SUZUKI....It appears to me, that he is still here, because of Tanaka.
A legendary Japanese player, that could be Tanaka's teammate.
A sidebar : Did you know that Matsui lives year round in NYC ? Another plus.
A year with Kuroda. Another incentive for Tanaka to think about.

In nine days, if Tanaka signs elsewhere, then Ichiro could be history.

    1. I think Veron Wells being DFA'd saved Ichiro, Zoilo or not, but I could be wrong.

Girardi did make his pitch to Tanaka though and did mention Matsui living in New York, the Asian population in New York, and Kuroda and Ichiro as selling points.
