Comparing the Yankees and Red Sox 17-2 Streaks

The 2018 Major League Baseball season has been nothing short of amazing in my opinion, and not just as a fan of the New York Yankees. We have seen shutouts, no-hitters, come-from-behind victories, dominating pitching performances, hitters putting on clinics and a pair of runs that saw teams go 17-2 over a span of 19 games. The Boston Red Sox did it first to open the 2018 season, but did the Yankees do it better? Let’s compare and borrow a tweet from our good friend Jared Carrabis, because truth be told not all his tweets are ridiculous after all.

Stats are all fine and good, but who did the Red Sox beat during their span and who did the Yankees beat up on during their span? Because while parity may be a dream of MLB executives and Commissioner Rob Manfred, a reality it is not. There is a huge difference between going 17-2 over teams like the Baltimore Orioles who are on pace to lose well over 100 games and going 17-2 against potential playoff and first place teams.

NEW YORK YANKEES:

During the Yankees streak the team from the Bronx beat up on teams like the Toronto Blue Jays (2nd in the division at the time), the Minnesota Twins (2nd in their division at the time), the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (first in their division at the time), the Houston Astros (first in their division at the time), the Cleveland Indians (first in their division at the time) and the Boston Red Sox (first in their division at the time). Meanwhile the Boston Red Sox did their bidding against the rebuilding Tampa Bay Rays twice (6-1 overall), the Miami Marlins (LOL), the New York Yankees (taking two of three), the Baltimore Orioles (who were on pace to lose 134 games this season as the week began), the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and one game with the Oakland Athletics.

Jared Carrabis and Red Sox fans can point out all the stats they want to as they cherry pick to make themselves look good, but the bottom line is the New York Yankees did it better. Period, and there isn’t any argument to be had about it. Strength of schedule is a thing in MLB whether anyone wants to recognize it or not.

All stats courtesy of Baseball Reference. Kudos to both teams, whether the Yankees or Red Sox did it “better” or not is irrelevant, winning 17 games out of 19 games is impressive nonetheless. Even if it was done by the damn Red Sox.

Enjoy your Saturday everyone. Go Yankees!!

Quick Hit: Michael Kay Explains His “See Ya!” Home Run Call

Just a quick hit for you all as we wait on the beginning of the game between the New York Yankees and the Oakland Athletics. I had heard this story before on a documentary or interview with the Yankees legendary announcer Michael Kay, but in case you haven’t he explained once again how he came up with his well-known home run call, “See Ya!” while on an interview with the Dan Patrick Show on Wednesday.

Kay was quoted in the interview as saying:

“I got this job 27 years ago, and at the time I was dating a young lady who, when she would get out of the car at the end of a date she would say ‘see ya, wouldn’t want to be ya!’ and I said, ‘you know, I’m going to hijack that as my home run call.’ So, I’ve been doing it since the very beginning of when I got the job in 1992.”

Pretty interesting and cool little nugget of information for you in case you had never heard the story before. Now you know, and now it is almost time for Kay to say “see ya” about six or seven times this afternoon in the Bronx. Here’s to high hopes and even higher home runs. See ya!

Game Preview: New York Yankees vs. Oakland Athletics 5/12

Good morning Yankees family and welcome back to the Bronx as the New York Yankees and Yankee Stadium prepare to host the Oakland Athletics in the second of their three-game weekend set. In the middle game of this series the Yankees will send Domingo German to the mound once again starting in place of Jordan Montgomery while the A’s will counter with Andrew Triggs. Let’s get to it here in the Bronx.

German will make his second MLB start of his career this afternoon in the Bronx after holding the first place Cleveland Indians to six no-hit innings in his debut, a 7-4 Yankees victory and a no-decision for German. German walked two and struck out nine in just 84 pitches and will be likely to go around 95-100 pitches this afternoon if needed.

Triggs heads into this start this afternoon also off a strong start last time out. Triggs held the Baltimore Orioles to just one run on two hits while striking out nine in seven innings of work. The difference here is the Orioles are on pace to lose a record breaking amount of games while the Yankees could win around 100 or more this season. Good luck with this offense.

The game will be played at 1:05 pm ET inside Yankee Stadium and can be seen on the YES Network and MLB Network. You can also follow along with the game on MLB TV, with the MLB At-Bat app, and by tuning into the Yankees radio broadcast on WFAN with the legendary duo of John Sterling and Suzyn Waldman.

Enjoy the game, maybe seven no-hit innings this time, and go Yankees!!

Hello… Rest

Good morning everyone and a very Happy Saturday to you all. It’s finally the weekend, we made it. I personally will be sleeping in as much as I can this weekend after moving our three-bedroom house two weekends in a row. I need a rest, and I hope you all get the rest you need as well. Or the fun you all need and deserve, whatever. Life is too short to be unhappy, so live life to the fullest.

Especially you. Be happy. I am, because I have you. I love you.

This Day in New York Yankees History 5/12: Yankees Almost No-Hit

On this day in 1956 Don Ferrarese got his first major league victory when he shut out the Yankees at Yankee Stadium 1-0. The Orioles rookie lefty loses his no hitter when Andy Carey leads off the ninth inning with a single.
