Justin Thomas Outrighted To AAA

Just Thomas, who the Yankees originally claimed off waivers from the Boston Red Sox, was designated for assignment a week ago to make room for Brett Gardner and David Aardsma. Justin has cleared waivers and has been outrighted to AAA Scranton. We'll see if he can add anything to that team, and maybe the big league club, next season.

Red Sox @ Yankees 10/2/12

Eduardo Nunez RBI single brings the Yankees back 2-1 Red Sox
Raul Ibanez pinch hit 2 run home run ties the game in the bottom of the 9th 3-3
Raul Ibanez walk off single wins it in the 12th 4-3 Yankees

The Yankees could mathematically sew up the AL East division title tonight with a win against Boston and a Baltimore loss in Tampa Bay. The Yankees will send David Phelps, not Ivan Nova, to the mound tonight to try and at least stay a game up on the Orioles. The Red Sox will send Jon Lester to the mound to play spoiler. The game will be televised at 7:05 pm ET on YES and MLB Network.

Brett Gardner Cleared To Swing The Bat

As we all saw, and unassumingly were all shocked by, last night Brett Gardner pinch hit late in a game for the first time since the first couple weeks of the season. Brett has been taking batting practice and swinging drills since his elbow surgery and has been cleared to do everything, no restrictions. You have to think that Girardi will take him on the post season roster now as they were already considering it before the doctors gave him the ok. What has been an up and down season for Gardner, mostly downs, can really be turned around if he makes the post season roster. I do not want to see anymore of Raul Ibanez in the field or Andruw Jones even dressed in uniform.

Manny Banuelos To Undergo Tommy John Surgery

The Yankees worst nightmare has come to reality today when the Yankees announced that top pitching prospect Manny Banuelos is scheduled to go under the knife and have Tommy John surgery. Dr. James Andrews will be doing the surgery and this will likely keep Manny out for the entire 2013 season. This is disheartening to the fans and it has to be to him as well. This pushes Manny back until at least 2015 if he ever gets to the majors.

This Day In Yankees History 10/2/12

In 1978 we had the "Bucky F*ckin' Dent" game, enough said.

In 1986 Don Mattingly set the club record for hits in a season with his 232rd. He ended up leading the league that season with 238 hits.
