Carlos Beltran & Yankees Will Have Mutual Interest For '14

It is only the championship rounds in this years playoffs and we are already talking about free agents that the Yankees are reportedly linked to and free agents that are interested in playing for the Yankees. The Yankees and Carlos Beltran are said to have mutual interest in each other for the 2014 season. This is odd to me as the Yankees already have Vernon Wells and Ichiro Suzuki set to split time in right field but the Yankees may be gearing up to get greedy, I like it, after missing the playoffs in 2013.

Beltran can obviously handle the New York media as he spent time with the New York Mets and his switch hitting power bat would be a welcomed addition to the middle of the lineup. Also his clutch post season hitting would be welcomed on any team, especially the Yankees. What else would the Yankees need to know to sign Beltran for his age 37 season in 2014 and presumably his age 38 season for 2015.

A Carlos Beltran signing would all but end Curtis Granderson's time with the Yankees and would probably prevent us from even entertaining giving him a qualifying offer. The good news is Ichiro is still able to play center field and naturally left field so he would be able to fit in on the bench. The Yankees could also DH Alfonso Soriano and make room for everyone so this deal could make sense on a whole lot of levels for both Beltran and the Yankees.

  1. I like Granderson, but getting rid of him for Beltran is a move I'd prefer.

  2. Only edge I give to Granderson, besides age, is the fact that he can still play CF and Beltran cannot. Well that and the 40 home run power. Although Beltran may hit around 30 in Yankees Stadium

  3. your joking right......vernon wells and ichiro set in RF? they both stink. both over the hill. And you can bet Beltran would be an upgrade. And dont we need to upgrade whereever we can? And i dont get why people are always underrating Grandy. Do you know he led the league in both runs scored AND RBI?

You think thats easy to do Daniel. When is the last time it happened? and he is one of the top 3 hr hitters in the AL.

  4. I did not say that we were set In stone with itchy and Vernon in right field I said we were set to use them. More or less what I meant was that was our right field combo as of right now. I do realize that it is October and a lot will change.

Also I don't think I underrated or disrespected Grandy at all. I just said if we got Beltran we would not have Curtis back and it's true. Didn't even says I preferred one over the other. I just wanna win

  5. And...along comes patrick.
First, I really like the idea of Carlos Beltran. Nice upgrade for two years. First building block.

My computer skills, always exposed, have gone south bound. Yes, the photo thing.
Hours, and hours...I go back and forth....nothing changes.
I don't understand why my Gravatar does no follow me. To me, it should...but what do I know.
My patrick photo, is from an old painting by John Singer Sargent...of Casper Goodrich.
I go to edit, and copy. It has a number, is that the URL? I go back to edit...paste, and psssst!
I light candles at my church, and the priest tells me to go home ...religion only! He says.
I will keep trying. I can not go forward without my image. It's an Irish thing.
With open arms, I welcome advice.
    Take care.

    1. Have you tried right clicking the image and clicking "Save image as" and saving the picture to your desktop? Then you can upload the photo as your gravatar forever.

  6. Daniel...
Question......; Where does Jeter play? He will not be playing SS most of the time, he will need to DH some of the time...maybe, 1/2 the time! I think I would like Alfonso to be the DH over Jeter...more Power.

    1. Jeter is a SS or bust in my opinion. He will get his fair share of DH spots, dont get me wrong, but he isnt being moved.. and he isnt going to be a full time DH either

    2. Hopefully it will be SS and not bust!
I agree, sad to say...I don't see the reason behind him coming back for 2014, he will not make it to 4000+ hits anyway. If he were to retire this year he and Mo may be sent to the HoF together!

  7. Old Ranger Ken / Daniel Burch......good evening gentlemen.
Kenny...hope this finds you well. I have been following your words. You have not missed a beat.
My two cents on the Jeter thing....Brian Cashman was asked the day after the season ended....
"will Jeter be the SS, 3rd baseman, or DH, next season?". ...Brian stated flatly..." Jeter is our
shortstop." He moved the conversation elsewhere from there. How's your puppy? You named him Twasp? Stay well.

Daniel..re: Computer 101: Mrs. patrick is now in the equation. She says she understands what you
are saying. We will give it a go on Friday. Thanks for the come back. Take care.

    1. No problem sir I hope Mrs. Patrick can get it figured out for you. All this trouble your having has my interest peaked on what gravatar you will put up, lol.

  8. Well Patrick, a fine Irish name it is, to be sure! I find myself hoping Jeter can come back as a player worth as much as he makes. I just don't see it happing, his range is next to nothing and he will have trouble hitting as we are use to seeing him do.
Therefore, why move him to 3rd base if he can't hit as all 3rd basemen do ...power!

    28-14
I have heard that statement just as Cash made it...flat. with no follow-up! It means...as of now WE HOPE Jeter can do the job but, if he can't.........he will retire, with pay.

Hopefully, you guys can say..."I told you so" at the end of the year.

  9. Oldest Yankee Ranger on the block....
You could always see through the smoke, and try to clarify. Mgmt. thinks he can move on at short, and put this all behind him ( Jeter )...I know where you are coming from. It's so very early into this retooling, and I feel Jeter may be one of the last pieces to correct. Hows your puppy?
Any good at putting up photos by your name?
    Stay strong.

    1. The only problem with moving Jeter to 3B is then you are stuck with a Nunez/Ryan combo as short stop and you have zero power on the entire left side of your infield. Sounds like a recipe for disaster, see the 2013 season.

    2. Irishman...
Yup, it took me three years but, I got it down to a Tee.
Pick a picture, put it in a NEW folder on the desk top. Go to your blog or gmail account, click edit, chose the logo or whatever, it will (maybe) ask you to chose a photo from your PC click that, when a list of files comes up...find DESK Top click your pix and then ok or send or anything telling you it is ok.
Now if there is any problem with the pix being to small or not a pg or etc., it will not transfer.
      Good Luck!

  10. Old Stranger07...... You can write it down....

Jeter will get the most ABs at SS this season. He will DH only sometimes. He will start at SS more than any other Yankee. He will finish the season at SS.

Why? because he still gives the Yankees the best chance of winning.....versus any other option.

    1. Ok Bugman...
I know you won't believe this but, truth be told, I hope you are right. I don't like him but, he is a Yankee and what is good for the team comes first, last and always!

    2. I think with Jeter having an entire offseason to run, make sure the ankle is healed, workout, etc I think he will be fine. I dont think he could go into his mid 40's anymore and assault Pete Rose's all time hits record but one more season I think we could see closer to 2012 Jeter then we saw in 2013.
