Trenton Thunder Game Recap 5/3

Roller, Gamel Lead Thunder to 6-4 Win

The Thunder scored in each of the first four innings on their way to a 6-4 win over Richmond in front of 5,137 fans at ARM & HAMMER Park on Saturday night.

Flying Squirrel starter Kyle Crick walked the first two hitters he faced in the first inning and with two out, Kyle Roller dropped a base hit into right field to score Mason Williams and Brendan Ryan.

After Ben Gamel drove in Carmen Angelini with an infield single in the second inning to take a 3-0 lead, Richmond rallied for three runs in their half of the third. Thunder starter Jairo Heredia balked in a run with the bases loaded then surrendered a two-run triple to Jarrett Parker to tie the game at three

The Thunder quickly snatched the lead back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning. With one out, Rob Refsnyder tripled to right center to score Roller and a throwing error by Richmond shortstop Matt Duffy allowed Refsnyder to score on the play.

Roller finished 2-for-2 with three runs driven in and a walk. Yankees shortstop Brendan Ryan went 2-for-3 with a run scored and two walks in his second game with the Thunder. Ben Gamel had the Thunder's seventh three-hit game of the season with a 3-for-5 effort.

Charley Short earned his first win of the season with three innings of relief. Taylor Garrison followed with two innings of scoreless innings and Brandon Pinder struck out the side in the ninth to earn his fourth save.

The Thunder will go for the sweep on Sunday afternoon at 1:05 p.m. The first 1,000 fans age 5-15 through the gate will get Drawstring Bags presented of Fred Beans Automotive Group. The Thunder will start LHP Manny Banuelos (0-0, 0.00), the Flying Squirrels will counter with LHP Ty Blach (1-1, 1.54). Listen live on 91.3 WTSR and TrentonThunder.com beginning at 12:45 p.m.
